This idea must die
I've been catching up with this years Freakonomics podcasts recently, and one from May was quite interesting. It was entitled This Idea Must Die
http://freakonomics.com/2015/03/05/this-idea-must-die-a-new-freakonomics-radio-podcast/
If you don't fancy reading the link or listening to the podcast, the idea is simple. Which ideas are bad an impede progress - And I'm thinking of pro cycling specifically / things around the sport.
My starters
1) Power data is useful in the fight against doping
2) Very hard stages in grand tours will produce "epic" exciting racing
3) Cookson / McQuaid / HV are the UCI and control every aspect of it
4) On bike footage has any value

Double post'Performance analysis and Froome not being clean was a media driven story. I haven’t heard one guy in the peloton say a negative thing about Froome, and I haven’t heard a single person in the peloton suggest Froome isn’t clean.' TSP0

The laughing group and time limits - they need tightening up . Seems daft someone can do the race at 80%. Perhaps something in place for those genuinely quack.
Have an outside time limit but can carry on racing and OTL but can't (ie massive time loss) . Those in the former category can not win a stage after.
Stops teams drilling it then drillers sitting up for 1/2 hour Teams would have to adapt better strategy
Plus it makes good riders lazy cough Millar cough0 -
- the idea that on the bike footage is anything more than a gimmick
- we're all going to be fans of a particular cycling team
- winning the Tour once entitles you to spend the next 5 years rolling round in the bus even when it's our home tour

No idea what one could possibly have against the on bike cameras. They are great. Also, they've announced that the technology isn't far away from being implemented live as well.0

I don't see what on the bike cameras add except a poor view of the race, sure a few seconds clip post race no problem but for me they add so little and if they start using them live I reckon it'll be a negative.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0

We've all seen the post-race clips of riders going up the Alpe, wouldn't a cut to 5 seconds of that during the race be interesting and engaging? And on descents. And even if it's not live, being able to have a replay of a sprint finish from within to show how rider x saw it/won it, I think that is well worth having. It's only a bit of sport, Mun.
