These soft climbs on the last days of the Vuelta suits Dumoulin perfectly. I bet he's loving it.0

wonder if TD will have a crack at gapping Aru in these last few ks?aztecboy0

What a joke this Tom D is. Literally not left Aru's wheel the entire climb. Not budged an inch. Simply unbelievable.
Aru so entertaining.
Why * would he leave his wheel though?
Because typically when a pure climber launches attack after attack after attack the huge bulk of the Dutch man theoretically should not be able to hold that wheel. Maybe if he grinds back up after a little while but matching a pure climber stroke for stroke...give me a break.
If TD is stuck to Aru's wheel then it implies that Aru's "pure climber attacks" aren't including much by way of acceleration. Even if Pantani was following Aru he'd still need to react to an Aru attack and before his reaction had any impact on the pedals, a gap would form albeit one closed down quickly.
A non-appearance of even small gaps suggests Aru isn't varying the pace much.0 -
Well maybe true except for the fact he repeatedly dropped everyone bar the heaviest guy there

Congratulations Roche and Zubeldia.
Nice work Aru, thanks for the performance. Better luck next time.Contador is the Greatest0 -
Nice work from Roche, must have been hard spotting Zubeldia behind him....Warning No formatter is installed for the format0

Four of my men lighting up that climb.
Loving it, do you get to stir the Christmas cake mix at home as well0 -

Well if a pure climber can't drop TD then we must conclude TD can climb like a pure climber even if he isn't just a pure climber ('cos he can TT as well.)
Maybe he's just a good cyclist. There are a few of them and being tall and good at TTing doesn't mean TD can't be one, including a two-paced climber.0 -

the best climber in the world isn't a pure climber though so pure climber is obviously a derogatory term, used to describe a one trick dwarf pony."Unfortunately these days a lot of people don’t understand the real quality of a bike" Ernesto Colnago0 -

A bread-and-butter win for a solid professional rider like Roche. Fair play to him.
Tom D did a storming ride today. Perhaps there is a tiny bit of suspicion about his performance on this Vuelta but hopefully the testing currently in place will catch him out if he is on the stuff. Personally, I think he is putting in a believable performance and is clean. It is difficult to see how anyone can sling mud at TD while praising Aru.

Funny how no one seems to be producing any power output evidence to 'support' doping accusations and are judging it 'by eye'
May be the numbers didn't work out the way they wanted.“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -

Also, that same rider was ahead of Tony Martin at all the time checks on the flat/longish Tour TT in 2013 - until the last all important one when the wind picked up - losing by a mere 13 seconds ...0 -

They will when SDB signs him.0 -
Very tactically astute by Tom D. Won a psychological battle there, I know from club runs how much it gets in your head when you're pushing hard hoping to drop someone and they are just constantly glued to your wheel. Aru by contrast seemed a bit naive and desperate. If he felt he could fan the time back today he'd have been better saving his efforts for one big attack. Made for a very good final climb with all the attacks but nothing ever looked likely to break the top 10.
It was interesting to see how closely match the two out front were on the stage and on GC. Dumoulin's big worry will be if there's a small gap between him and Aru up the final climb on Saturday. He needs to keep as tight all the way up as he did today and make sure no Astana rider can get between them to let a gap develop.0 -
Mikkel Conde predicted there would be a strong headwind on that final climb. Just looking at the highlights now it looks like that's the case; difficult to get away, easier to stay in the wheels than making attacks stick0

Shades of desperation creeping for Aru that he cant do any damage to Dumoulin, for sure
The HEAVYWEIGHT Dutchman looks cool as. He won the head games as well as leg games today0 -
