Mikel Landa: "Martinelli told me to stop but I didn't. I thought it was a stupid thing to do."
Not surprising that a guy with that and previously demonstrated sh*t attitude will be going to team Sky.
Losing yet another stage due to another piece of disgraceful tactics from Astana (Giro..) was never going to happen. Of course he rode to win it this time. Astana are idiots.0 -
on a personal level I prefer Landa to that ghastly Aru any day of the week0

Well I know you took the other side of the argument that time (unsurprisingly), so wont start a debate about it here, despite the fact Aru has a very realistic chance of taking the GC but needs as much time as he can before the TT.Contador is the Greatest0

.. and why would someone who apparently refuses to follow team orders be perfectly suited to a team where .... they DO have strongly defined team orders ... ?
Maybe leaving the Vino-managed team seems like an attractive and eminently sensible prospect and Landa has demonstrated he is a rider of no mean ability in GTs.0 -

Um, do they watch anything but the Tour though?
Money and attention grabbing losers for most of them.
However, the performance is not that great on its own, but probably amazing given the previous parcours.

I think much of it IS centered around the Tour when 1) they can pick up lots of new followers, and 2) the likes of Vayer can get paid for writing scummy stuff for Le Monde
But a big part of it also stems from the blinkered, single focus on Sky. Its like the scenario where people are so obsessed about those new neighbours who've moved into the big house opposite, that they fail to notice that the houses either side of them are being burgled...
Though Veloclinic is ranting about Astana on his Twatter feed, and bemoaning the fact that no one's paying him any attention0 -
Pro riders with incredible bike handling skills are crashing all the time in "accidents that shouldn't have happened"...
A peloton of 150 riders plus, on open roads - with all manner of nonsense random road furniture - it's like a shoal of fish doing its best to avoid the perils. Even the very best individuals get caught out on occasions.
Based on what evidence exactly?
the fact he crashes into team mates whilst staring at his stem, or suchlike.... I've said before he is by no means bad, but he is a long way short of being a great bike handler. i feel for the guy as he is genuinely a fantastic climber and a very good time triallist, as well as being vastly underrated in other areas of his riding. he is however, not easy on the eye...0 -

Sky wouldn't leave their brains in the hotels before the stage stealing not only Landa's dead certain stage win but also potentially a GT-win. What Astana did to Landa on that day was so laughably stupid that whatever Landa decides to do on this team, it's totally okay. Like they were going to do it all over again to him. Not a chance and good on him.0 -

But a rider's panache remember - a rider showing he has this gets an invisibility cloak, but ride like your a (fast) diesel train and people have the time to formulate their accusations. Jump around with sparkling variations in pace and people are loving your resemblance to climbers of old what natural class you have.0 -

He's ridden out of his skin to still be in contention and with the TT to come who knows what he can achieve?
Big let down for me is Quintana, again. Seems to be so full of potential and hyped by everybody but so rarely on the offensive.
I think you're in danger of underestimating how much the Tour took out of riders who were racing for GC and at the front, day in day out0 -

Does riding and completing the whole of a stage dubbed 'the hardest ever GT stage' by some, losing only 8 minutes in the process, trump riding half a climb with a broken leg and then abandoning?0

Absolutely not.
You and anyone else are completely out of your mind if you think Contador pulled out of there without absolutely good reason.
Not only was he in incredible form, it is not something Contador has ever done before.
A lot of people on here enjoy playing down Contador's injury but it was really very serious. Much more than Froome's.Contador is the Greatest0 -
You have access to both their medical records then?0

He fractured his tibia. Go and check the TdF medical bulletin. If you disagree with that then I can't help you.
He crashed at 78km/h and then rode his heart out to try and regain the time before the pain became too much as the adrenaline wore off.

“I did it, I put up with the pain, because we invested so much work in the Tour that I didn’t want to give up. I didn’t want all that work to go to waste, but a moment finally came when I realized that the Tour was over for me.”
“I wouldn’t know how to describe my feelings,” he told the four journalists waiting for him. “I am mostly sad over all the sacrifices that I made to reach the Tour in good shape. I worked really hard, and I think I can say that I had never prepared for a Tour the way I had prepared for this one.”
“For months I’ve been sacrificing everything. I was rarely in such a top condition as now. I want to make it clear,” he added.
