Hope warranty?

I'm running a set of Mavic xm719 on my current steed and five months ago the pro11 rear axle broke. I rebuilt the rear hub on new bearings from JE James(£55!!!!!!! but wanted to ride the next day) and new Hope axle only for it to break a couple of weeks ago.
I've contacted Hope and they have offered to replace the rear axle for a steel version but wont cover the rear bearings am I being unreasonable to expect them to cover the cost for both? I'm left in the situation of trying to get the bearings off both bits of damaged axles without ruining them. I've asked if they'll take the complete wheel and sort it themselves but the communication has run dry?
Tell me if I'm being a cock?

Why would you expect them to warrant another companies parts?0

Hope have no contract with you. The retailer does - so any direct correspondence with Hope is good will. They could have totally ignored you.
Go back to the retailer. This is by far your best bet.0 -

I understand what you're saying with the retailer do I rebuild the wheel and sell it on to someone else? poor show in my book.0 -
Why will it fail again in five months? I think you probably just got unlucky and got a faulty one. Hope hubs are generally very reliable and go on for years. I have never heard of a Hope axle failing and most people I ride with have Hope hubs.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Just for clarity, you bought a Hope axle and some berings from JE James, fitted it all yourself, it failed, Hope offered to replace the Hope bits, but not the non Hope bits.
Sounds reasonable.
I'm not clear on why the bearings are difficult to remove.
Not some user error/incorrect bearings maybe?
Or am I missing something?I don't do smileys.

Then your recourse is with James, for selling you unfit /unsuitable able goods under the sale of goods act.
Sounds like hope were being more than reasonable by giving you a new axel.0 -

Ok, but if it's down to a mismatch of components it's hardly the fault of hope, if the axle issue was a fault then hope should replace it, which it seems they have.. Unless I'm missing something?0

If the clutch fails in my car prematurely and I get a warranty replacement I would accept that 100% quality control would double the cost of it accept that I was unfortunate and got one of the few faulty ones which slipped through. It happens.
So you're now blaming Hope for JE James selling you the wrong bearings and you pressing them in without checking? How is Hope in any way responsible for that?Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Now we are getting somewhere, so the maxle lite isn't suitable and probably caused these issues?0 -

Less than than six months - the retailer of the broken part has to prove is not faulty if they disagree with your claim. They can offer a repair, replacement - or a refund if the other two are not possible, or part compensation. But this can only be done so many times. If the unit repeatedly fails you can claim loss of confidence/not fit or purpose. Slightly grey area, but see what the retailer does.
However. If you have fitted incompatible after market parts (not saying you have) or fitted incorrectly, then you have no recourse with the original retailer.
Who sold you the original wheelset?0 -

But if it was the maxle that has snapped, then how is that hope's problem?
It seems a lot of rear maxles snap on oranges. My mate snapped his rear maxle (going through a hope hub) on his Orange 5. I thought it was virtually impossible. Then suddenly I hear of tens of other orange riders who the same has happened to....It matters not, win or lose, it's how you ride the bike0 -

Perhaps you should take a deep breath and explain slowly.
You seem to have confused everyone on the thread.I don't do smileys.

. . . it was running fine until it broke. . .
This is, of course, what you experience when something is faulty or badly set up from the very start and it takes several months for the problem to manifest itself in a catastrophic failure. If your wheels weren't done up they'd be running fine until you hit a bump. It doesn't mean they were perfect until then.Specialized Roubaix Elite 2015
