We are down at 3/10 for this Tour. Shocking stuff. And I even had Jakob in front to cheer at throughout the day.
I thought they all tried. Quintana just doesn't have much of an attack. Valverde couldn't go too hard in case Quintana couldn't follow. Nibali tried. Contador tried, but is impotent right now.
Ultimately no gaps, but I thought it was exciting while they were trying.
And TJ's probably quite content following wheels to a podium finish!0 -
If Valverde has that power left why the hell wasn't he putting pressure on Froome and G lower down the hill?
So what - as a supporter of his team leader he should be willing to blow himself up a few k down the hill if it might allow NanoQ to gap Froome. Note how the tour winners "spend" their team-mates (horrible phrase) to put pressure on the other riders - whilst the strongest Movistar sidekick is really riding for himself rather than for team-leader then they will struggle and the only way they will win is pure solo brilliance by NanoQ. Frankly I don't think he has quite enough - but with Valverde actually working for him then it would be a closer race
Agree. It's just not in Valverde's DNA to do anything other than look after number 1 though is it. He's like the shifty guy in a 70s disaster movie that you know from the start will let everyone else down to save his own skin. Probably played by Ernest Borgnine.0 -
Days like this to give you goosebumps.
Yes.

I'd give a lot to bring back the days of proper racing in the Tour.
You really are the worst, you through insults and insinuations around that Sky are cheating, but at the same time wish for the old days to come back.0 -
The attacks looked like they couldnt be arsed

Not that exciting. Actually got some work done, which is nice.
Was good watching the digs on the last climb and I always like it when the breakaway wins, but overall the highlights would have been fine (and it probably would have seemed a lot more exciting compressed into 30 minutes)0 -
LeMond slagging the other riders for basically crapping themselves and giving up already. Cycling is finished if they keep producing van garderens of this world. Must be the most negative cyclist out there. He's utter pish !!!0

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that the year Berto got busted in the Tour?0 -

He isn't, he's just no better than the kid in the playground that supports a "big" football club that has no understanding/concept/willingness to accept that anyone could possibly have an alternative view. It's really quite sad.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

It was. He'd been suffering badly early in the race but looked a "new man" approaching the final, crucial mountain stages :roll:0 -

It's weird isn't it, apparently cheating is OK if it's someone he likes but not when it's Sky (even though there's no actual evidence they are cheating).
If Froome and Contador's roles were reversed he would be getting all hot under the collar over Tinkoff and Contador's masterful control of the race, but because it's Sky it's the worst thing that has ever happened to bike racing (n.b., may be an exaggeration).
(it was still a boring stage).
Edit: I also don't think he's the worst, once I got used to his posting style it makes this forum much more interesting.0 -

Ah what do you lot expect?
A less one sided race, but that's sport - they can't all be nail bitingly close.0 -
I think there's signs there that the Alps might throw something unpredictable up. I'd say Froome will go on and win but good to see a few attacking them even if it didn't yield much. Those 4 stages in Alps are brutal, could see something.0

Well it's an internet forum, so everything is un-necessary!
I'm simply looking out for Frenchie's mental well-being. He's clearly overlooked years of cycling history which tells us that a Giro-Tour double is highly unlikely and is still coming to terms with Berto being on the receiving rather than distributing end of the "dishings out". My suggestion to him to stop watching is simply because I don't want the tortured soul to suffer any more. (And if this has the added side-benefit of saving us having to read his predictable tosh then it's a "win-win" situation.)0 -

Frenchie, just curl up on the sofa with a bottle of chardonnay, a big bar of chocolate and a box of tissues and watch your 2009 Tour DVD while listening to Adele songs. You'll feel better for it.

Froome's Landis like ride on Tuesday has effectively neutralised the whole race... Its as good as done. None of the other GC contenders will bother attacking as they know rocket-fueled Sky will make mince meat of them. The last two days have been horrifically boring. Today was a disaster for the fans. Greg Lemond was clearly shell-shocked and Ashley House just seemed really pee'd off... :?**************************************************

At least that fine fella on the right might still put Froome to the sword and enliven the racing. Oh no wait.......
What happened to that young man after they busted his brother and Clenbuterol doping became news?
But at least the racing was exitingCoach H. (Dont ask me for training advice - 'It's not about the bike')0 -

To be fair to Berto, if he'd not raced the Giro then I'm sure he'd have been very competitive vs Froome. But he did race the Giro (and win it, let's not forget) and is paying the price.0 -

Busted AND attacked a mechanical. Heady days indeed.0 -
I wasn't surprised to see Contador fail to maintain an attack but if Quintana had form surely he'd have been able to do something today? Let's hope he gets stronger for the Alps.
Sky really did deliver the knock out blow Tuesday. It might have nullified the race as far as a spectacle but the tactics have been spot on so far. Surely some of the teams must have thought they might be aiming at doing something like that......they did the same in thing in 2013 on Axe 3 Domains.0 -
If the Alps don't give something interesting then going forward there is literally no point watching cycling GTs with Sky's A*** team anymore if you a fan of exciting cycling and multiple and frequent time gaps.
It *might* get interesting when you have Sky Supreme Rider 1 go against former Sky Supreme Rider 2 now on BMC. That might be good for a laugh to see how two neighbours and thick as thieves friends 'race' against eachother.Contador is the Greatest0
