Calling Ron B, calling Ron B, graph required!

These middle mountain stages are where the real gains and losses can be made. On the MTFs you can guarantee le autobus will try and take every second available.

New chart shows how Bling Matthews totally lost it with that performance on S13, while Sam Bennett just goes on making steady progress - now over 10 mins ahead of his nearest rival.

Rest day 2 and Sam Bennett is showing the sort of consistency that's required for this event ...

Blow for cycling fans globally, as Sam Bennett had to abandon during today's Stage 17. Bora-Argon 18 did not go into detail, simply stating that Bennett “had to abandon”. (Source stickybottle)

Will Chava be able to avoid the temptation to get into an early break on some of those remaining stages?

Bennet must be gutted, probably the same issue as TJVG..... both men under similar pressure.

That said, good to see a Frenchman finally in with a shout of winning something though.
'Performance analysis and Froome not being clean was a media driven story. I haven’t heard one guy in the peloton say a negative thing about Froome, and I haven’t heard a single person in the peloton suggest Froome isn’t clean.' TSP

The poor lad was riding alone almost from the start, not surprised he climbed off.

Risky, dare I say rookie, move there by Louis Meintjes trying to storm in to the reckoning, nearly missing the cut on today's stage ... yet still around 1hr down on the favourites!

I wonder when a LR contender was last given dope test? Why isn't Jalabert clamouring for their power output, it'd would be a lesson in unnatural efficiency I'm sure.

With one day's real racing left, surely Chavanel has this in the bag now? Tufty needs a miracle to pull back 9 minutes on a crafty rider like Chava.

Could be all over. Unfortunate ride today by Pieter Weening, geting stuck between two autobuses and losing his top (bottom) ten placing.

Only chance for CanTuft ^^^ is that Seb rides with his brother tomorrow up the Alpe.

Farrah looks to be making a last minute bid. Out the back as soon as the road went uphill despite a seriously pedestrian pace at the front. It will be tough timing it right to avoid elimination though.

Never been a fan of him, despite him now riding for My Team®, but missing the cut the day before Paris.... Ouch.

Nice that he is still able to take risks to try to win though

It will be harsh if anyone gets eliminated today, I'd like to think the decision makers will bend the rules.

Not sure if that would be fair for a sprinter though.

None of the favourites managed to escape the autobus today, so we have a winner!

Tour Trivia: This is the first Tour de France that both Chavanel brothers have finished. They started 07 and 08 together but abandoned one each.

Tuft V Chava V2, plotted with http://sporten.tv2.dk/cykling/tour/analyse (in Danish, but easy enough to work out, nice little data toy)

Svein Tuft is curretly negotiating a contract extension with OGE, good to see an early commitment to next year's Lantern Rouge
