The jury can waive these rules in special circumstances. I believe there is an extra rule for a large autobus but I am struggling to find it
They can do that (and usually do) when at least 20% of the day's starters miss the limit. They officially do it by extending the limit to when the autobus comes in so anyone behind the them still gets eliminated.

The 20% get deducted green jersey points (the amount the stage winner received).

My man Tommy De Gendt is going to need a serious breakaway on the Alpe to get a podium but I have faith he can do it.

No big shake-ps in the lanterne today in the TTT, but Orica grab a few seconds for both Tufty and Bling.

Whilst one has to congratulate Orica on their dedication to shepherding their GC candidate around today rather than aiming for a meaningless stage win, it appears most of the gains came because Edet had a bit of a jour avec. Dowsett has actually managed to claw back nearly a whole minute - have Orica been too cautious? Surely it's too early for a team to be riding defensively like this?

Ten Dam was always going to disappear from that list if he could recover from his earlier injuries. Sounds like he's pleased with progress - and he came in with the Nibali group today (just) 4'25" down.

Chavanel making a burst into the top ten, aided by the abandonment of Van Summeren ("his injuries vomit acid on him", according to an unreliable translation, so his retirement may come as some relief to the rest of the peloton). Apart from this, the big news is Dowsett gaining a huge chunk of time on GC - could we be seeing a rare GB double?

Has there ever been a Lanterne Rouge who is also a stage winner in the same year?

Anyway, on with the one true GC - and the only one not to be plagued with 16 billion people screaming about 'not natural', because the natural order of man is to come last:

    166. NEDVAN BAARLE Dylan 169 TEAM CANNONDALE-GARMIN 49h 03' 04'' + 02h 12' 32''
    167. FRANAULLEAU BRYAN 125 TEAM EUROPCAR 49h 03' 18'' + 02h 12' 46''
    168. AUTHALLER Marco 94 TEAM KATUSHA 49h 03' 26'' + 02h 12' 54''
    169. ITACIMOLAI Davide 153 LAMPRE - MERIDA 49h 03' 30'' + 02h 12' 58''
    170. FRAEDET Nicolas 172 COFIDIS, SOLUTIONS CREDITS 49h 04' 22'' + 02h 13' 50''
    171. FRACHAVANEL Sébastien 23 FDJ 49h 06' 41'' + 02h 16' 09''
    172. AUSHANSEN Adam 76 LOTTO-SOUDAL 49h 12' 03'' + 02h 21' 31''
    173. IRLBENNETT Sam 193 BORA-ARGON 18 49h 12' 08'' + 02h 21' 36''
    174. CANTUFT Svein 106 ORICA GREENEDGE 49h 14' 27'' + 02h 23' 55''
    175. AUSMATTHEWS Michael 105 ORICA GREENEDGE 49h 24' 53'' + 02h 34' 21''

In big news, GB hopeful Alex Dowsett has suffered a terminal outbreak of gradients and had to climb off. Tufty Swine moves up in the classification but couldn't tease out a few more seconds from the autobus - perhaps he's waiting for the Alps to launch an attack? Adam Hansen seems to have suffered a dramatic improvement in form - perhaps he's lost the sick note from his Mum? - and Chavanel and Edet swap places in the race to be best home rider. Cimolai rises into the top ten thanks to a solo break that gained nearly three minutes.

Edet - I'm surprised he's so low down. When I watched the Tour de Yorkshire he was in a 2 man breakaway going up the hills, miles in front of everyone else.

Maybe it just goes to show that the TDF is at a whole different level, a big step change in ability and talent.

Credit to Matthews for sticking in there and gaining time on the pack every day. Sad that Dowsett climbed off, he could have challenged Matthews in week 3 however Tuft seems to be willing to go the distance.

Tufty must be furious to have missed the crucial move that put Bennett into the lead - ten minutes is a massive swing at this level - and Naulleau has also managed to close the gap impressively. I have no idea what Hansen thought he was doing today either.
