He dropped a bit of a clanger today. He reckons Contador has won two Giri and is on his way to a third. I suppose he is Spanish but it is a poor error. Come on, Juan-Antonio, you are better than that.

    He was briefed by ff

Well the riders know who won that race and the 2010 Tour. Even 2nd place Scarponi and 2nd place Andy. It is just most of the people on here and all the new-age English speaking fans and riders who don't.

The breakaway seems to have got stuck at a level crossing and not been given the same lead after the train had gone through.

I reckon they more or less did, now that we've reverted to the usual flexible and approximate Italian approach to rules (my Dad was Italian, so it's ok for me to say this).

The Filth shouldn't have been riding either of those races. He knows that and so do you.
The record books show he didn't win.
    Rules are rules after all.

On paper looks like a candidate for the Most Boring Stage of a GT Ever.

Here's hoping for some surprises. Anything really.
No reason it's any more boring than your average flat Tour de France stage though, is it? Completely pan flat like this or flat with one or two minor bumps doesn't really make a difference for pros

The weather's usually better for those though and there's sunflowers.

It's also standard forum etiquette to moan about them for days on end, so I suppose in the interests of GT equality a flat stage in the Giro should be subject to the same level of protest.

Separately, I'm complaining about the stage length, but that's a different matter.

There's considerable confidence in the sprint finish, but does Lotto-Soudal have the strength to control the race? I can't see any other team helping and given the success of recent breakaways it might get some strong riders.

Surely Trek, Lampre and Giant will want to help too

    From Cycling News
There are a number of teams working on the front. Lotto-Soudal are right at the front with help from Giant-Alpecin and Lampre-Merida. Tinkoff-Saxo are sitting just behind the sprinters' teams.

    Don't listen to me.

Who did win in 2011? Maybe Nibali won with ease from John Gadret. Doesn't sound like the Giro I watched.

I know who didn't win that Giro and that's El Pistolero!

Aye that is true. Let's have a collective Friday afternoon moan.

It's like Samson, apart from it's is personality that's been removed.

Amazing how many style critics there are on here who probably look like complete boring berks themselves.

The problem is, the official results for the 2011 Giro state that Scarponi won the race. Contador doesn't feature anywhere on the results sheet. It's the same as saying Floyd Landis won the 2006 Tour.

P.S. I've been speaking English all my life and following cycling since 1985 so I know I'm not one of these johnny-come-lately's you speak of!!!!!

Contador loses 39s. Probably less to Aru. Gains some on Porte possibly.

    WOW

    Boring stage?

What a joke these time losses are

At least we know that Porte would never have beaten Contador

The time gain by Aru is annoying but spices it up ahead of the TT and in fact Contador may not mind too much given they know have the lead the race

Probably. Otherwise Porte looked resigned about the GC while Contador and his team was all out to cut his losses.
