BREXIT - Is This Really Still Rumbling On? 😴

Working as intended if they want to screw the car industry. Europe has similar issues.

The government to some extent recognises it has gone too far with the current consultation on the rules. It really isn't in anyone's interest to screw the UK and European car industry - unless you happen to be China.

Doesn't sound like it's that much too far if the latest outturn is only 1.5% below the target.
No doubt China are more competitive on EVs. That's good for consumers.

china...
ev/hybrid/ice, doesn't matter, anyone who can't compete is going to suffer, market size counts, smaller markets will be the most vulnerable

Maybe even the Express is realising... eventually. All they've got to do is work out why the UK might be missing out on these plans.

Imagine how much they'd be seething if they were Swiss? Transport infrastructure going right through the country with no stops. 😂
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Shock, horror, EU transport plans exclude non EU country. Must be a slow news day.

It's the Express. Every day is a slow news day unless there is an actual snow storm, actual heatwave, or they find out who killed Di. Their only other headline is, immigrants!.
Edit:- Right on cue, their current headlines include snow, the Royals and immigrants.

Aren't you missing the point that the Express describes this as a "betrayal"? In the Express Editor's mind, it's a pretty big story, even if on Planet Reality, everyone and their dog knows it's a non-story.

presumably they mean the betrayal of the british people by brexiters
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
If they're calling it that then all the more reason to say that it's a slow news day. Just going for clicks as usual.

It feels like you're pretending you've never seen the Express before.

Looking at the mess that the likes of Germany and France are in, do you think this is the best option? Especially when closer ties with the EU always comes with strings attached rather than 'let's just trade more'.

All choices are a bit shit at the moment, including the exceptionalism of thinking we have any clout or influence floating around by ourselves in our little corner of the Atlantic. All "Let's trade more" deals come with strings attached.

The EU trading bloc appears to be exceptional in terms of the string attached. Which other trading blocs come with strings such as freedom of movement?

Yep all choices are a bit shit, including clinging to the sinking EU ship, which seems to be holed below the water line. Since 2008 the gap between the US GDP and the EU has grown by 80%. So there seems to be something rotten in the state of Brussels. Something needs to change but they seem unable to do so.
As regards clout, the big events in the last few years have exposed the EU's delusions of grandeur. Ukraine was and is an embarrassment for them.
And before you get sneering at me being a Brexiteer, I voted Remain.
Btw I chose a French newspaper for the link as I thought that may make a CS approval list.

Makes you wonder where the good deals are going to come from. EU is burst and Trump will look to shaft everyone.
The future is orange. If your name is Trump.

Not sure it's a surprise that Germany have been soft on Russia. One of their former Chancellors was practically on the Russian payroll.
Seems like the latest choice of US president will go some way to narrowing that gap.

Would it surprise you that France is the biggest EU importer of Russian fossil fuels and actually is importing more now than last year? Euro233 million last month alone. And Austria is second on Euro220 million last month. Czech republic has been given an EU exemption to continue importing Russian crude although fully capable of replacing it.
As regards Trump, wasn't he President for 25% of the time when the US economy surged ahead of Europe, so don't expect the gap to close any in the next 4 years.

On the first point: not particularly. Mind you, with China and India accounting for 2/3 of all Russian fossil fuel exports between them, let's get it in perspective.
On the second, of course, but he appointed vaguely sensible people to his government. You think all the guff about tariffs will work?

David Henig takes a non-UK-centred view of the EU-UK relationship, and blames both sides for the inertia/slow progress.

Lots of countries in the world have working holiday arrangements with countries in the EU. It's a shame the EU has got itself involved in this.
There doesn't seem to be much point in having the talks.

Schengen visas are also a bit backward.

Jim Allister's private members Bill to scrap the Protocol and replace it with Mutual Enforcement arrangements was 'talked out' today. It'll come back again on 11th July

The 4 year anniversary vote in Stormont, (barring unexpected success of a JR on Monday) will take place on Tuesday. It pass on a majority basis. Every Unionist will vote against.
Brexit. Over, but still rumbling on.
