From BBC
Between 2021 and 2023, the study found UK goods exports to the EU fell 27% and imported goods by 32% compared with what it predicts would have happened without Brexit.
The report does not include the service sector, which has performed better than many experts had expected since Brexit.

Baby steps/pragmatism. Let's hope that shooting oneself in the foot falls further out of fashion.

Apparently the Band of England's weighted (*) Sterling exchange rate index is now back to the level it was prior to the EU referendum.
Read into that what you like.
(*) Weighted by activity levels in particular currencies, so likely USD and EUR heavy.

For once I find myself in agreement with Macron - I've posted somewhere on here recently about the problems of over-regulation in the bloc.
We should not seek to follow.

Well timed to stop this dropping off page 1 of the forum 😉

And thanks for doing your part to keep it at the top of the list. Appreciated.

some are rule makers, others are rule takers

This is even more pointless than when the EU did it. Control doesn't mean making the right decision.

Seems a sensible decision to me, but since when did that matter? 😉
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

I just bought something with a micro USB connection. That's really not that inconvenient. Eventually all manufacturers will switch to USB-C without any legislation being required.

Try telling that to Apple, or anyone supplying micro USB.

Apple have switched. Or do you mean that they wouldn't have done without the legislation? That's true, but that's Apple and consumers can take that into account when buying.
0 -
Yes, that.
I don't think the majority of consumers think that deeply. They just see a shiny new thing and think "I want that one.".

apple didn't want to and the fanboys wailed, gnashed their teeth and tore their hair in support of their crappy proprietary connector
with it's eyes firmly on the money, apple caved and adopted superior usb c format - tougher, non-proprietary, and now capable of 40gig throughput, 240w power
everyone wins

Entirely meaningless surely?
It's not like there were large numbers of manufacturers planning on making a special UK only charging cable anyway?
1 -
Meaningless although it may mean that old stock can't be sold in the UK. As per the example above I just bought something which is micro USB.

VAT on private schools is a better example of "taking back control" even if I think it is not a great idea.

Worth noting though that had the UK remained in the EU, the USB-C decision would likely have been taken anyway, regardless of the UK's views, as such things are decided by QMV. Being a "rule maker" in such circumstances is potentially worse (if you're worried about such things) than not being involved in the decision-making as there's the false hope of having your view prevail.

Have Garmin finally succumbed to USB-C connections? Their product specific cables are another level of shit with those ridiculous prongs that seem to never quite hit their connection point. My watch is a good few years old now so they may have addressed it but the only problem I have with it is that I sometimes put it on charge only to find someone has breathed on it and knocked the connection out of alignment when I go to use it.

that's democracy in action

I get that, but the "we're a rule taker now when we were the rule makers previously in the EU" argument is more nuanced than simple soundbites suggest.
This isn't to support Brexit. I voted against it.
