I would agree with that statement through word of mouth alone. We all speak to other rides and have heard numerous stories of carbon failure, less so ally and far less so for steel.

I'd agree with that. Titanium is a funny one, there seem to be quite a few people having problems with what should be a very long lasting material.

Wonder if that failure has anything to do with the increased stress caused by Dic* Brakes?

When it comes to engineering stress, there is no better material to take it than carbon fibre. To me it looks like poor manufacturing... something went wrong in the layup or in the curing process. Unless there is some kind of chain-drop damage, but the OP doesn't mention anything like that, so we have to assume there is no impact damage there...

Issues with Ti frames tend to be with cracking at the welds.

I'm keeping an eye on this thread as I too have a de roso idol. Having said that, I've owned countless carbon bikes and crashed one of them very heavily resulting in cracked forks. I don't believe any other material would have come off any better and in fact I suspect alluminium, steel or titanium would have either bent out of shape or in the case of alluminium probably snapped rather than flexed as my carbon frame did.
I don't believe in carbon frames being any more likely or more regularly failing than other materials either. Could it not just be the fact that a huge number of road bikes are now made of carbon that you hear more stories of failures purely because more people own carbon than alluminium, steel or titanium? I ride for two clubs and I'd say 80% of the members ride carbon and as far as I can remember only two failures occurred. One of which was a heavy rider with too much seatpost exposed resulting in the seatube cracking. This is from a total of around 150 bikes ridden regularly over more than two years. Hardly a figure to cause concern.

There was no crash of chain drop on this frame/bike ...I did ask for the tracking and ref number so I can see where and when my bike gets there ....guess what I've been given nothing so is my frame really in Italy at all?

As you can tell I'm starting to wonder what's going on as not really been kept informed about it ...my conversation with I ride on Monday was pretty much pointless as they said my point of call is with the bike shop and not them! Hang on a min i ride have sent my bike away so I believe so surly you are my point of call

Looking at your photo, this doesn't look like a manufacturing fault failure, and doesn't look like it is in an area where you would expect to find a manufacturing fault.
Are you sure it hasn't taken a knock or been hit by the rear derailleur?

De rosa don't make mountain bikes do they? Is this their first attempt at a disc brake frame? Wonder if they have got the sums wrong.

Yeah. Probably didn't do any r&d whatsoever and just stuck a set of discs on and hoped for the best. Jeez!

No crash and I don't own a turbo and it hasn't been on one .. It's not been hit from behind either:-( I've been told that I will have my bike before the 10th of May for my local sportive.. Hopefully a new bike

I only noticed the crack when cleaning excess oil off the chain ...lucky really as it could have been nasty

Yeah. Didn't mean an entirely new bike. A new frame would be a good result.

I'm having a new bike as that's what I paid for not a new frame with old parts on it ... Maybe I'd accept that if it was a year or so down the line but just over a month is a joke!

fair play if you get an entirely new bike but would you expect a new bike if your crank broke or the seatpost snapped? They're not really old parts.

If the post cracked then no for a new bike but if it cracked around the seat stay and wasn't my fault and it was only a few weeks old then yes

Yeah. The thing you attach your pedals to!! The frame is only part of the package. Same as the crank, wheels, mechs etc. What's the problem with just having the damaged part replaced??

He's already stated that the shop has agreed to provide him with an entirely new bike so its not an issue.

The shop are using the new frame and my old parts as a demo bike for them and then providing me with a new one with di2 .... This is in place and has been ordered for me
