Six or seven I believe from chat
Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.

Anyone have a GPS link for last year's? I'm away that weekend but would be useful to know where the nearest cobbled type roads are for a bit of training.

Rapha have a map with off road bits marked, see http://pages.rapha.cc/events/hell-of-the-north-vi

Some of the roads around Herts are truly shot to pieces at the moment, You can easily do this at anytime of the year, no need to be rapha'd up.

On the climbing front if you know where to look you can easily do 1500m of climing in a 100km

with the highest point in Herts being a massive 245m, I'm sure it's possible to do 1500m in 100km it will just take some planning. The highest point in NL is 322m though - just to put it into perspective

Looks like the highest point for the route is leaving/entering North London at a mighty 430ft 130m though with rolling/off road route it may not feel that flat!

I did it last year on my 42x16 Paddy Wagon and 23mm Bontrager Hardcases with no real issues, some lack of traction in the deeper mud, but fine everywhere else. 28mm tyres would be good, anything else isn't in the spirit of the ride!

Have a place on the ride this year, might see ITB at the bar again.

The funny thing is that the highest point in NL is nearly in Germany or Belgium - it's the intersection of the 3 borders down in the Ardennes.

Met my New Best Friend Simon Mottram today on the Rapha launch ride. He's going to be at HOTN too. Nice guy.

I've also started on my £200 of coffee. The brew they have is very good and I know the barista too and he's a real coffee geek. Very friendly people at the shop/club - and very nicely set up - I think I'm going to enjoy it.

    Want an entry for it?

I had a mate stay with me to do it last year so I turned up and rode a bit with him, thought I'd give it a go myself this year so got an entry, but I forgot I also have a race that day so won't be taking part.

Roger and Ugo how are you going to get there? I was thinking about the train from Richmond to Hampstead Heath.

I normally drive to the finish, park the car and ride to the start, but if there is a train option, even better... I am in full training mode... this morning ride

That looks like a much nicer ride than the normal weekday morning.
Train option won't work as the first train isn't until 8.59am so we wouldn't get there in time. I might have to drive too. I've done very little riding other than to work and back so may be rather slow.

I'm happy to ride with anybody - this is a fun social ride as far as I'm concerned. I've been putting in the distance recently (250k last week) and will probably do a 160k ride this weekend but this is for fun. It'll be good to meet a few of you too.

Yes, I'm more than happy to meet up and have a social ride. Although your social pace is probably me turning inside out. What time are people aiming to get there?
Roger, Paolo I can either get 2 bikes in the boot and 2 people in the car or 2 bikes on the roof and one in/on the back and we can all go in my car.

I have a volvo V70 which took the new bike in it's box whole... I don't have a roof rack but I assume it should swallow 3 bikes, plus riders.

plus since I'm teetotal someone will need to drink my free drink!

I'm not sure a Boardman CX will distinguish me, or a Gabba, or....

If it's cold enough, I'll wear a Dutch country jersey otherwise I'm not sure - maybe RCC jersey but there'll be plenty of those
