Is the wind seasonal or all year round? Or more to the point, what's it like in October. The 2016 Worlds could be surprisingly brutal.

Lowest wind is in October, on average, but it doesn't seem to deviate all that much.

  • That's a lot of info about wind! Inrng pointed out the Tour de l'Eurometropole will have a stellar line up next year with the World Champs in October!

On Rowe, he gives a snippet of an interview for Procycling this month (being an ex-Fab Four-er) where he says he will have a freer role (but not necessarily with team support) in the semi Classics, but he knows he will have to be a gregario for the biggies.

Also, not sure if it was mentioned but it was too windy for choppers, therefore static cams only.

Loved the information on the wind, I have never seen it displayed like that before. I have lived here 15 years and can confirm the prevailing wind is from the North. Todays wind however was from the south and this wind blows in from Saudi picking up dust and sand, it can get unpleasant. It's still blowing now and the strong south wind due to last till Thursday.

I'm a geologist not a meterologist, but Deserts are commonly very windy. I guess becasue of the effect of hot air rising...

To get back in my comfort zone, consider that sand dunes are actually a lower energy desert bedform. In properly windy areas, deserts are stripped of any sand that could be blown by wind and only large rocks or soil remain. I remember working in Algeria in the desert and it was phenominal - even to Dutch people - how hard the wind could blow

Sounds like some hard riding to force a selection like that. Good to see my man Stannard the right side of the split.

Is it silly to think Stannard could be vying with Terpstra for the lead in GC today...?

Brandle fastest at the finish ahead of van Keirsbulck and Boom.

I suppose he's expected to do well in TTs now.

Stannard slots in just 1 second down on Wiggins
  • Terpstra currently ahead of Cancellara.

  • Stannard 3rd at the moment.

Just realized that if Cancellara wins then Trek wins and i had selected them as the last team to win. (edit, Trek got a win on the 8th with Jungels).
Valverde only manages a mediocre 13th.

Actually a very good time for him.

Is Wiggo really so surprising at this distance?

I know: 2.5 times the Olympic distance. What were the organizers thinking?
