  • Stage 1 is in progress.

    Valverde is racing.

Hope there are no bonus points from the sprints.

World's tallest building apparently  . Shame about the slavery. Crass dump for a bike race.

This is my first year trying to follow as many tours as possible on TV since going to Grand De tour Yorkshire last year, this Dubai Tour is lacking a few hills isn't it? And Eurosports HD channel is down :(

Elia Viviani is looking a strong early favourite for the Tyler Farrar Award for most podiums without actually winning anything.

  • Nice work Cav. Not the strongest sprint field in the World but enough tough riders in there to make it a good win. Nice to see Guardini right there.

  • So, let's leave aside the slavery, corruption, shady financing of bad people and complete lack of cycling culture and focus on a great job by my man Cavendish and my man Iljoooooooooooo

  • It's just great to see cycling back on Eurosport again, the silky sound of Rob Hatch and Brian Smith on comms again, beautiful HD-ness, and the joy that live cycling brings to all of our lives
  • It was a very windy day here yesterday. Tour comes past our place today so hopefully nip out and watch / take a few pics.

Lasy year was similar, one draggy stage that was so easy on the early season legs that Marcel Kittel won it, beating the misfiring Sagan into the bargain.

A genuine UAE tour would be more hilly but they want to showcase Dubai as much as possible as it's the named tour - and unless they make the Burj Khalifa into a helter skelter, it will remain a tour mainly comprised of office blocks, highways, bizarre architecture and desert.

Maybe the riders can navigate the snowdome half way through and they can call it the Giro d'Dubai, 20 riders getting hypothermia in the desert...

    Was a smart sprint.

Headwind - got a good slingshot off the last man and got a big enough gap that Cav was fighting in the wind too.

Was sprinting in an even lower position than Cav was.

Only two reasons to do to Dubai:
    1. to change plans en route elsewhere when flying Emirates
    2. tax free earnings, but then you have to put up with everything that's 'orrible about Dubai!

You need Europe to feel right with a Jar of Beer in your hand and if that is missing then there's no real atmosphere. Cheers.
