Do you have any opportunity to work from home at all?

Only occasionally and under exceptional circumstances, last time I did when I'd just had a car crash so couldn't get in. In that case it worked out quite well because I had an hour for lunch so went outside cycling for the full hour :D. Although last time I did that I got a puncture and my cable stop sheared off, ;)
I am fortunate living 5 minutes from work, and manage to get 4 or sometimes more sessions in each week.

Lucky you. I'm more like 50 minutes, and at least an hour for safety time.
Monday night after I have put my little girl to bed, I get on the Turbo for 90 - 100 minutes - my gf goes out to band rehearsal so no time together 'lost'
Tuesday after work, I manage to get around a 50-55 minute session in before my gf gets home from work with my daughter. (At the weekend I cook the meal we are going to eat on Tuesday so nice and easy)
Thursday is my work from home day, and I have negotiated with my boss to take a longer lunchtime, and then work it up at the end of the day - this means I can get a decent 80 minute session in during my work day as it were, and then finish a bit later, but being totally done for the day.
Saturday or Sunday I tend to get up at around 6am, out on the bike by 7, and back at around 9-9.30.
As the weather improves am considering getting up at something like 4.30am, and being out on the bike by 5.30, so I can get a 50 in and be home before 9.

Sounds decent. As the daylight comes back I'm going to start getting up at 5am one day a week to get in an hours proper riding outside as I have a coupe of friends who want to do that too; easier to get up when you're meeting someone.
Do you cycle to work - if so might be worth seeing if you can extend your lunch hour and go for some rides during that time.

Nope; it's 35 miles each way so cycling is not realistic ;)
I am finding as a new father that life does not need to stop, or completely change, there are ways and means to keep ones interests up, AND keep fit and healthy at the same time.

Interesting. I mostly find that any time I spent on fitness or hobbies etc is nearly always time taken away from family life; a certain amount can be tolerated; e.g. Sunday morning is pretty much a free pass, other than that it's very difficult.
  • Well 7 months on, not using the exercise bike any more. Instead a have a turbo trainer, albeit a cheap one with handlebar mounted resistance thingy. HR, speed, cadence & power sensors, a Garmin to read them all on. And an iPhone where I can run trainer road. So my setup is somewhat different from the exercise bike where I had a HRM and nothing else.

I've pretty much got 45 minutes of pedalling time 2 or 3 mornings per week before I have to leave for work, so I'm guessing I'm looking at workouts with the likes of a 15 minute warm up then 30 minutes of effort?

The plan is hopefully to keep up the weekday rides during the winter but hopefully still do a decent length ride outside on Sundays, but when that isn't practical then it will have to be a couple of hours indoors, although motivation for longer rides will be an issue.
