End of this week wil, definitely be silly. I'm going on a pre BREXIT boat cruise tomorrow, should be fun.

Will you be saying that in the morning?

    Hope the weather improves.

Can I recommend 'Elbow Grease' Citrus cleaner from Semi-Chem at a £1 a blast for degreasing bike transmissions? It's bloody brilliant and bloody cheap.

    Don't - it's a painful, time consuming, expensive business.

    So many headaches:

    Team kit yes or no.
    Helmet yes or no.
    Tubulars/clinchers
    Compacts, semi's and standards
Mountain bike, mountain bike with slicks, hybrid, drop handlebar, carbon, titanium. aluminium. steel...
    Rapha or Lidl...

What causes you proper cyclists get a 'semi'?

    pinno Posts: 52,511
Compacts are a bit specialised in that the ratio is a leeetle too small and we don't have any really big hills in the UK. It would be difficult to race on a compact in the upper tiers - Elite, 1st and 2nd Cat. You're legs would probably come unbolted at 250 rpm. 53/39 is a little on the large side. So the semi is a compromise.
The fact that it has been marketed at all is a sign of too much money. A compact 110 bcd can accommodate a whole plethora of chain ring options, so you can choose what C'ring you like. A standard 135 bcd has fewer c'ring options but you can go 38/51 I believe. If you have 27 at the back and you still cant pedal 38 x 27 up a hill, you're either fat or feeble or both*. If you want to go up 1 in 4's regularly for some inexplicable reason, of which there are 1 or 2, then get lift in a van. Hang on...

Or over the age of 90.
