    They think they are the rightful sons as this used to be the MTBR. Maybe the 'tumbleweed' factor is something to do with their attitude to non crudders.

    Nick Louse has been one of the most liberal of mods and yet Crudcatcher is on the slide.

    There has been a huge proliferation of Road based cycling recently. There might be a link. The other thing, in the early 90's, MTB sucked a number of significant and accomplished road cyclists in. I remember busting a gut (after travelling miles there and miles back) at an event just to earn a few points and nothing more whereas MTB races had huge price money, even at the lower levels.
    ...but then the whole of the 'Chat' side of BR has dwindled. Like VN said, it's more and more about bling and products.

    The Crud going quiet was nothing to do with mods. Although splitting off the hub didn't help as the half sensible off topic stuff went somewhere else to die.

    You're right though, these roadies and commuters are everywhere now they must have been breeding. Not a bad thing mind and eventually some if them will move over to the fun side of the force :)
