Katie Compton and Sven Nys had Shimano cameras attached to their bike during the race yesterday.
According to something I read on Twitter last night, on-bike cameras are allowed when they're going to provide footage for tv rights holders, the same for road racing.
You can see the camera below the bars, just to the right of the stem on this picture.

There are also a few rather exciting videos shot from under-saddle cameras in UCI Pro road race sprints (where multiple-bike pileups are commonplace) so it seems that even the upper echelons of the UCI aren't that bothered.
I race every week with five cameras on one bike. Helmet, Bar, Seat, Chest, and one pointing back at me. I edit them together into a story about the race for entertainment. I know from the people who approach me at races, the riders who film these POV videos do more to get people excited about the sport than just about anything else. If you come to a race, sure, you might get the bug. But, when guys (like me) see the race from the perspective of the rider, it makes you believe you can do it.
This video shows the benefit of 5 cameras for story telling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6EgbLNW_nw The POV part starts at 3:10.

Isn't it? I think the drone stuff is great. It would be cool to see race organisers doing something like that.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

I gather the TV company had some input to the course setup, to ensure they had the sight lines they needed to cover it properly.Pannier, 120rpm.0 -
The problem in the UK is the legality of it.

So, given the assembly of 1000+ people it couldn't get within 150m. Given that the course is directly between all the people that causes issues.
I guess that's why they only did the recce shot, no assembly at that time.
I guess the problem is that this is a technology which has shot to the front very quickly with no clear idea about how reliable it is (drones, not go pro!)My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)
