I was after a cross bike so that I can...

1. Try out cross riding (and racing?)
2. Us it as a commuter to replace my old faithful Giant Rapid
3. Ride with my kids when they go out on their bikes in Epping Forest

I already have a Rose road bike and I am extremely happy with it, so getting a Rose cross bike was an easy decision, especially as it ticked all my boxes: aluminium frame, carbon forks, disc brakes & full Shimano 105. As well as the knobbly cross tyres in the pics I have also got a set of 28c road tyres for commuting. They even knocked off a few quid so that I could get it in under £1k to put it through the C2W scheme - result!

I haven't been able to ride it (or anything else for that matter) yet due to wrecking my ankle ligaments, but I'm on the mend now though so I should get out and about soon.

Anyway, here are the pics....

    Agreed. Very nice.
Hope you get better soon and get out and about.
  • I want one !
  • Thank you for the post, i have been looking and didn't even think about Rose.
just out of interest what size did you get and whats your height for a generic size guide?

    Me = Height 187cm & inseam 91cm

    Bike frame = 60cm

Compared to my Rose road bike which is 61cm.

    Hope that helps a bit.

  • Looks lovely. Thinking about one of these as a 'do it all' winter bike. Good weather bike is a Rose Xeon CRS which i love.

Does this bike take full size mudguards? Hard to tell if it's got the mounts from these pics.
  • Must be hard not being able to get out on it yet, looks nice!

It does take full size mudguards - it was one of my prerequisites.

I have heard that on occasion toe overlap can be an issue with mudguards on, but I'm sure it is a surmountable problem.
  • Took delivery of that very bike about a month ago (in black) with upgraded wheels - mavic crossrides

It's a cracker. I've ridden a cx race on it, done quite a bit of training and a few road adventures

It's a great spec, rides great, looks great - only thing i've changed is the saddle..

The only real competition to it at that pricepoint in my view is the Giant TCX

After what seems like an age (not really but who doesn't get impatient when waiting 8) ) mine turned up this morning.

As I had already bought some components when originally considering a build project, I had a set of handbuilt H plus Sons Archetype with road tyres and a set of Spyre TRP calipers waiting. So I now have a set of on-road and a set of off-road wheels and will swap the calipers over soon as well.

Oh dear, I cant see the mountain bike ever getting a look in now ....

The only other thing waiting is a set of mudguards for when the weather turns.

Anyway, looking forward to getting out on it at the weekend and I hope Mr E17Blade manages to do so soon as well.
  • Ooh - like the look with a white saddle! Not that I'd have one - can't be arsed keeping it clean - but it looks great.

Still haven't done more than ride mine round the block though - probably another week or so until I can get out properly. Soooo frustrating!

Saw one of these on the outskirts of Winchester this morning. Got so excited I nearly had to pull over for a chat but managed to resist the temptation. Only the second other Rose I've seen all year. Any takers on here??

Nice been looking at that myself. Fantastic value, how long did you wait for it, what's the ride like?

Not sure its not a bit racey for me so also been looking at the Xeon team CGF. Its a few quid more though.

I think it took 5 weeks. The ride is superb, ultra responsive to all steering inputs, great brakes & wheels. Excellent service from Rose, I test rode three different bikes, measured myself using their online guide, phoned them 2-3 times to ensure I was getting what I wanted (their customer service is staggering) and haven't looked back!!
I tried the CGF which was like putting a well fitting glove on and super smooth ride (it had Di2, which was amazing) and if you want comfort over excitement then the CGF might be for you, nevertheless I have ridden several 100 mile rides with no problem. If you browse my posts in Rose threads you'll see that I'm a big fan.
  • Thanks, where did you test ride them. The only person in the uk, Finlay somebody or other is about 350 miles away. Been looking at the CGF with DI2 which comes in just under the £2k mark. Want to see the colours in the flesh before I commit, the Rose site just has a side image rather than a photo.

Ordered it on 7th March and took delivery on 8th April.
I met up with Finlay in Bath for test rides, give him a call, he could be up your way some time. Which colour(s) are you considering? The photo of mine is a perfect match to reality.
  • Considering 3 of the 4 colour schemes they do, the white/green, red/black and blue/black. I have just emailed Finlay asking if he can send me some photos. Will ring him tomorrow and ask if he's coming up north.

They could do with a north of England rep, I think I might just be the person for that job.

:D I think they'll be having a South Wales rep first.
  • Placing my order for the Rose PRO DX Cross-3000 "MB" 2015 next week. Have been speaking with Peter from Rose they can not be more helpful.

Mate did you work out what difference the "MB" makes? I'm a bit slow and couldn't work it out.

  • From what I can see the MB has mavic crossone rims and I'm guessing the MB stands for Mechanical Brakes, while the other(DX3000) has dt swiss rims and hydraulic brakes.

Seriously thinking about the dx 2000....it's that or the CAADX 105. Decisions decisions...

I saw your post as I am just about to get one of these and am pondering what size to get. Is the 60cm you refer to the Rose Frame size as listed on their website. I am 6'2" with a slightly larger inseam and am pondering what to get.
Is the seat height in the picture set for your height?
I have been told that the top tube on a CX bike should be shorter than a road bike - is this the case for you?
I am stuck between a 60cm and 62cm as shown on the Rose website.
My road bike has a 580 top tube with 120mm stem but compact handle bars.

Any opinion would be gratefully received.

The 60cm I refer to is the size on the Rose website and the seat height in the picture is how I have it set and it seems OK so far on a limited amount of riding. I am happy with the size of the bike - I think the 62cm frame would have been enormous for me.

Rose have been incredibly helpful with regard sizing and measurements when I bought both my bikes from them so don't worry about bombarding them with questions. Also, if you want to try my bike for size and live in or around London (I live in Walthamstow) then I'm happy to meet up somewhere.

    Cheers.

My long list of annoying injuries relented enough for me to go for my first proper off road ride this weekend - albeit a quite careful and gentle ride for fear of my back going again. Great fun.....

Glad you've eventually been able to get out. I've now done just short of 100 miles over the last couple of weeks and I am really enjoying it. It even sports a pair of mudguards now.

I'm doing my first ever sportive this weekend and if the weather stays like it is currently then I'll be using the Rose for that.
  • Finally placed my order for my Rose PRO DX Cross-3000 "MB" 2015 - 5 week wait

Phone them, that's what I did. You will then not go wrong, their service is remarkably good.

Hi! The bike looks great! I've been offered this bike by Rose but with Rose 1850 wheels. How are the wheels on yours???

My wheels (Rose CR 1900) are pretty good - not amazing - but plenty good enough for what I need them for (for now anyway!). If I could have got better and kept the cost under the C2W limit I probably would have, but they aren't a deal breaker.
