Contador would have smashed the Tour had he stayed upright.

Quintana would have smashed la Vuelta had he stayed upright.
  • Well, somebody else is lucky they weren't caught on camera:

  • Moral of the stage is that both Valverde and Rodriguez paid for the stupidity they showed the day before. They had the chance to drop Froome for good, but they were too thick to take advantage of the situation... and now one of them is going to be out of the podium... probably Rodriguez, as he is the thicker of the two and has a track record of near achievements. Their performance reflects the similar lack of brain showed at the Worlds last year

Nice to see Froome in front and nice to see Contador at his best since the Giro 2011

Contador has consistently been better than Nibali and this year would have been no exception, however much I like and rate the Shark.

Helluva pep talk, to pick your man up from the trouncing on stage 14, FF. Considered a career as a sports management guru? Top tier vacancy in the offing methinks.

Stage 4 you mean? Has nothing to do with your ability to win a GT. Nothing. 7 GTs in the bag and 8 looking increasingly likely, my top man, who I have backed unceasingly since forever, is still and will remain, the best stage race rider of his generation.

7 GTs in the bag??? yeah, just like Lance still has 7 tours I suppose

Really proud to be team sky rider today. Amazing effort by everyone and Chris Froome what a leader ! Rest day tomorrow happy days :-)

That's a great attitude. With Deignan taking a punch without retaliation (boxing club discipline?), Froome has his lads completely on-side. I don't think Kerrison/Brailsford will survive the Froome regime.

That might explain Froome's 'bump' into Moreno (sure it was him).

As Sean Kelly said, stuff happens all the time but you need to make sure there's no cameras around, and even more sensibly that there's not a big red car right next to you.

Tragic to hear of the death of a Guardia Civil motorcyclist on the Vuelta today. They protect our lives every kilometre of every day.

This is very sad. Has anyone heard the context? Would be good if they did a minutes silence before the start tomorrow.

    From Purito:

"Clearly, Contador and Froome were stronger today, bu there is another week. The good side is that Froome has no interest in settling for second place. He would sell his skin to try to win the Vuelta. Froome will race for victory. The race favorites are great champions and are in their place. This is a tough Vuelta and 5000 vertical meters today have caused damage "

Well, that's one of a million ifs so i guess we'll never know.
It's interesting that he says that Froome is the only guy he fears, but I think he is downplaying Qunitana especially.
Mind games, against Quintana, Valverde and Rodriguez

Although I've not been convinced by Rodriguez for some time - his best days were up 2 or 3 years ago

    Froome:

"I gave everything I had but I couldn't drop Alberto."

"I was not 100% when I arrived at the race after my crash at the Tour de France. I've tried to progress throughout the race. I'm really happy to see that my game is progressing and I 'm where I wanted to be for the last week"

Froome is dull, dull, dull off the bike, but he has been most interesting on it, and he really gave it a bloody good go yesterday. It was inevitable that Contador was going to jump him at the end, a bit 'sneaky' given that he had let him tow him up the hill, but to be expected and anyone would do the same.

Props to Aru, guy is a real fighter.

There was a video around somewhere showing the crash (not the aftermath) - he slid out coming round a fast corner on one of the descents and went into a guardrail.

Wiggins wouldn't have stood a chance for GC so why would he be picked over Froome?

I also highly doubt that Wiggins would have preferred to ride the vuelta over the ToB, which should allow him more time to prepare for the world champs.

I cant believe this. Really held up JRod as more of a gentleman than most with educated responses in interviews etc. Shame.
I doubt even if it was caught he would have been expeeled5 though...

I think the problem with Brambilla and Rovny is that they just kept going at it. Had it just been one smack they'd probably still both be in the race.

Yes it doesn't look like a crash that you'd expect those consequences but on two wheels everytime you come off if you have bad luck the worst can happen.

    Yawn,

Where is your info coming from, his team mates all love him (even after ousting Brad), everyone else in the peloton likes him, he does great interviews, was the main protagonist in the Sky ice bucket challenge, is actually realy funny on twitter.

He comes across no differently to Contador off the bike. 95% of top level elite athletes probably seem boring because generally we get them preparing for an event or just after an event.

agree with most of that.. but he doesn't interview very well in my opinion. Just doesn't come across as a very likable guy.
