Very quiet thread for a stage like this, surely people aren't watching the quite boring opening stage of the TOB instead?

A pointless comparison, but the ToB is at 17km to go, with the Vuelta at 13k to go. At some point they will have the same distance to finish. Be interesting to see how long it takes each to get to their respective finishes from that point.

Yes, you are right, that's a pointless comparison.

Talking of comparisons. Loved the graphic they just showed on this feed....

Gradient of Boeing 767 take off, gradient of a flight of stairs, ave gradient of this climb.
  • Dan Martin crashed earlier and was 1.30 down. Still 30secs down.

I think he is with Ryder now in the peleton.

Meyer and Niemiec at the front on their own now. 3.20s, 9.5k to go.

Barguil gives it a dig, riders respond. Froome riding at the back of the group though.

Froome at the back of the bunch again. According to the Vuelta feed he was back at the team car just before the climb.

Now moving up round the outside of the bunch. Perhaps we shouldn't say he's struggling after the last few days!

Froome is constantly riding at the back but he keeps easily riding around dropped riders. I think he likes playing a few mind games with Contador to be honest.

    Goes further back than that.

2012 where he drifted back looking like toast and let Wiggins taste the wind... then BOOM.

Looked like Samu was dropped with that little injection of pace.

Froome now definitely detached by about 50m. J Rod and Contador are getting frisky.

A few half hearted attacks. The slow downs are letting Froome get back.

I'll say it now. I don't think Contador can properly drop JRod. And vice versa.

  • Froome climbing like Wiggins. Thank goodness the Spaniards have crickets in their shoes.
    Contador is the Greatest
  • Not a big fan of froome however I like the way he just rides his own tempo and doesn't get involved.

Each time Froome gets back Contador gets more angry but he can't drop J Rod. Or Valv for that matter.

Contador would be minutes clear if froome didn't own him mentally. The guy cant stop looking back.
