Quintana follows, Froome trying to go with him. Valverde struggling.

Blimey! Winner's not going to take the leaders jersey.

    Quintana off.

    Señor Hairplugs on J-Rod's wheel?

Looks like Froome was better than he looked. Cracking win by Anacona.

Edit maybe not, Quintana with JRod but Froome hasn't held them.

Contador not looking fluid - wait until he hits the final week. Game on. Best news possible for cycling fans globally.

Froome going to lose a chunk here. Goes to show a strong team can't help if you haven't got the legs yourself.

What a boss Contador is. Literally took JRod and Quintana until the line to catch him.

Not so bad to be honest. Valverde more or less holds on to lead as well.

Rich was right - good tactic by Froome. If he had showed weakness they may have tried to take him out earlier and he would have lost more.

Froome likely to pull the gap back in the TT but isn't climbing at his best. Bertie hadn't looked too good just before he attacked, I was about to comment that he looked to be grinding up the climb. Quintana had gone pretty much unnoticed until he responded to Bert's attack which is often a good sign.

He was climbing those last 2ks with a much bigger gear than usual. Wait until he flies.

I am sure he would have eaten those guys alive at the Tour.

Froome was either on the limit or very naive siting so far back in the GC group.

Infected knee / broken leg ??? Not only is he the best GT racer of his generation, he's got the best recuperative powers of his generation too

It really does look like a good 4 or 5 way scrap and hopefully it will stay that that way until the final TT. 30 seconds covering the top 6.

I'm not sure it was a good tactic. Sky, because they lead the peloton so frequently, have a massive "tell". You can judge Froome's form by how many team mates he has left at the 5km flag. If it's one, you're going to have your arse kicked, if it's three of four, then attack ASAP.

Do we always get so excited about an 8.5% gradient?

Nope, certainly not when the climb is only 8km and that's the maximum rather than average. Other than the altitude it is on a par with something like the Tumble (slightly shorter but steeper) or Holme Moss so hard to understand the commentators getting so excited in a race like the Vuelta.

Right, off for a 10 mile run. I won't be ready for my half marathon if I sit on the sofa watching cycling and commenting on a forum!

  • So Contador's leg break was less dangerous than Ian Salisbury's? Impressive attack nonetheless.

    Fell free Frenchie.
I predict Contador to out TT Froome. He is Oleg's 6 million dollar man.
Quintana went well in the Burgos ITT.
