If you don't mind me asking Velonutter what's your opinion of the slang and more colourful language that gets used a lot on here? I'm guessing that you see it as a dilution of our rich language but as this is an 'English Speaking Forum' that is open to all I see it as being a part of the 'culture' of this place (as long as its within the rules of course) so it's ok.

It's not my opinion that counts Arran, we have a broad guideline for the forum and we try to make sure it goes down that route.

I wasn't asking about the 'forum rules' on this, after all this isn't the place to discuss such things

I was genuinely curious as to your own personal view on all of this :)

Also we established the other day that everyone's opinion is valid here :P

As long as they didn't do it in french morse.

I don't really care whether it was Morse code or any other form of encryption, many of the members don't read it and nether do I, so please don't start publishing it in your replies.
Should we also dumb-down our posts in case some members can't understand them? We sometimes discuss politics, economics and sociology. I'd hate to think that Dave from Dagenham was struggling to keep up.

Isn't the whole point of a forum that it reflects the range of interests and intelligence of society? BB is the place on BR where members can do things a bit differently, be close to the edge of acceptability, but within the published rules. Posts work if members respond to them. If they work, what's the problem? If they don't, they die, so what's the problem? As long as they're within the published rules, what's the problem?

The problem is that you typically sabotaged another thread instead of starting a thread to chat with Morse Code, which I note you have now done, of which there isn't a problem.

It's the same with Text talk, absolutely hate it as do many others.

Yep if you want to talk in Morse Code fine, but don't go doing it randomly in the middle of other threads, same as if you talk any other language, this is an English Speaking Forum.

If I were a mod I'd ban you for using unnecessary Capital Letters. :P :P

In that case as my personal opinion... I can swear like most people and probably worse, but I believe that there is a time and a place for it. The swear filters work well on here, but I don't like it when people deliberately swear and rely on the swear filter to remove as it is still visible when people quote or when people trying to get around the swear filter by spacing the words or using the $ or @ sign etc.

BB is a frustrating place for me, but I accept that when entering that side, but I hate it outside of that section as you never know whether it is a woman or young kid, so respect needs to be made for those posts.

Don't get me started on the drivel spouted in here, then you will get me swearing.

The drivel is what I like about Bottom Bracket and is the reason I visit, I sure it's the same for most of the regulars too :)

The things I find bizarre is some of the words that get filtered and some of the words that don't

Am I going mad or was there a GiantMike post on this page that has just disappeared?

In a similar vein I couldn't be a copper. It's not only catching the scotes but then relying on the jury system to convict if the lowlife is guilty. Yes it's the 21st century but the amount of prejudice still out there in Joe Blogs is truly and sadly amazing and who are picked for jury service and who dismally dense in intelligence and common sense.

I would find it difficult not to fit people up I took a dislike to.

It's the same as being a mod, opening yourself up to questions when really I couldn't be bothered in sharing why i banned someone.

It's good that I have no aspirations for either role :D

I must admit to having enjoyed the level of nonsense that has prevailed this week.

And we are only half way through!
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Out of interest, what caused the mass flounce?

Bikerader was formed as a merger of various other cycling forums. If I remember rightly people got p*ssy about the layout, tetchy with people from other places and eventually people just left. I used to lurk on the old Cycling Plus site which was migrated over here. There's probably a few old angry threads down the dark end of BB...
