Actually, I'd have been telling people we spent half the day in really shite cars and asking for my money back.

The 306 gti6 is just a bit ropey compared to other hot hatches. Compared to most customers family Austin Allegro or Vauxhall Cavalier they probably feel pretty good plus anyone who isn't used to a race track will struggle to find the limits of a car on a track with grippy surface and where you can take a proper race line, corner speeds are much higher than on roads.

Exactly especially when sat next to someone talking the lines through with you. I doubt anyone walked away asking for their money back. If they did, perhaps they should of researched first! I also doubt many people would get anything near the limit of a Ford Fiesta popular around a race track with a proper racing coach. So even something like a GTI6 is going to be quick enough!

I learn to drive in an Allegro. But I've also got lots of miles in the likes of G-TR, various Porsche and Ferrari and a whole lot of others. If you were to pull up a random top 10 of performance cars, I've probably got at least a few hundred miles in most of them. A few thousand in some. Plus, lots of track time. So don't assume I'm comparing it to some elasticated rust bucket.

I owned one and compared to a couple of its competitors which I also owned was a bit wawallowy and felt gutless. It may have felt gutless due to the way it delivered it's power as the claimed output was about right for a hot hatch of that era.
The Ford Escort XR3i zetec 130 I had before it was much more fun, handled better (apart from torque steer) and felt quicker. My old mk2 Golf GTi was faster and handled better. I will admit that it was better than my 1994 RS2000 which was a disappointment.
I seem to remember my mates 205 GTi was quicker than my GTi6 and definitely more fun.
The Renault 5 turbo was definitely the best hot hatch, loads of fun to drive and thats the whole point of hot hatches. The GTi6 just lacked fun.

Seriously? No, just no. Agreed on the Renault 5 turbo, though. I had one and it was so much better then the 205 GTi that got all the love in the press.

The XR3i was brilliant! It was the later 1.8 litre 130ps engine so not as slow as the early model. It torque steered like a bitch but was just great fun to drive.
The old 1.6 XR3i's are now selling for crazy prices for tidy ones.

I had a '89 plate XR3i...I loved that car. I sold it with still only 89000 miles on it in about 2000. it was immaculate apart from a small chip out of the rear spoiler.....I loved that car when I was 19 8)

Well I have to live up to my name. I was thinking that. Perhaps it's because the cars being discussed are, merely cars.

Shall we enlighten him Pesky or is he better off being in the dark? I mean, the man who can't be named has more than enough friends, hasn't he?

I'm not sure if he'll want to be friends with him, mere hundreds of miles in supercars might not cut it. You can try, play nice now.

Ooo, no... anyone who thinks scribbling on their Lamborghini makes it look cooler is sitting on a different side of the river to me. Shame that thread didn't blow up a little harder, though.

When it involves the man that can't be named, guaranteed the proverbial is going to hit the fan. He has this innate ability to be a first class plonker and there are those who have the equal and innate ability to actually try to argue with him.
I only wish folks round 'ere would go, 'Ooh yes, you're so big and clever and fast and rich. I really want to be your friend' (metaphorically) because it could get quite interesting...

So they're not his cars, he's just a mechanic that adds tacky shite to them? Can't see why he loves himself, he's buying the odd bit of posh tat to try and fit in with the serious players but he's a nobody.

I'm going to have to get myself a road bike - looks like much more fun over there! Mind you, to be fair to VTech, I'm not sure he's any more of a wankër than Colinthecop, bernithebiker and a few others who seem to have a real chip on their shoulders about rich people and miss no opportunity to bring it to the table.

Seems like a seriously touchy moderator, there. Didn't seem like anything particularly inflammatory in that first thread (haven't read the others) just endless and increasingly tedious back and fourth where, for the most part, people didn't have too much to say other than wanting to argue with VTech. Nothing worth a lock out. Moderator didn't seem aware of the fact that no-one is being forced to read the thread.

You can fit them in the boot if they're not too big. You'd get a six year old and a Jack Russell in there, no problem...
