The UK Top 100 names of Boys and Girls is published on line at Mumsnet. In the boys top 100 there are 3 iterations of Mohammed (perhaps as one may expect I suppose). When looking at the girls list, surely there should be some correlation to this statistic.I would expect to see at least 2 girls names of Arab or Islamic origin. There are none. Strange.
Wow that is remarkable that 3 spellings of Mohammed appear in the top 100 names. That suggests to me that we have people of Islamic backgrounds living in UK.

Did you deliberately choose to omit the next little bit "(perhaps as one may expect I suppose)" in an attempt to maybe make something out of the comment that wasn't intended? My reading was that he is surprised at the lack of an obviously Islamic name on the female list, not that he is surprised there is one on the male list.
What has been omitted again? He is quoted in full.

Had a mate at work, surname "Nurse".
He always laughed that his dad was called Phil and his brother, Antony.
Making then an "A Nurse" and a "P Nurse"!

The point is you have interpreted the comment as one of surprise that a Muslim name should feature in the top 100 in the UK when in fact the intention was to convey surprise no female Muslim name featured in the list for girls. In other words you imply the poster is in some way racist or at least shocked that there are many Muslims living here when any neutral reading of their post would infer nothing of the sort.

You must realise that but I'll spell it out anyway.

    Def Tiresome.

Nathancom and I have history. However I was making an observation and genuinely thought there would have been a similar correlation in girls names. Equally surprised that not more Eastern European names in list.

Nathan will try to make a racist finger pointing argument out of anything. I would to know his views on current conflict in Gaza. Perhaps you should start the thread Nathan.

Considering you previously went on several page long rants against Islam it was at the very least curious why you mentioned Mohammed as a name. I didn't say your post is racist but out of all the names that could have sparked interest you alighted on that one. Anyway, as long as you don't go on tirades against Islam I am happy.

I am not sure what relevance the Gaza situation has on this at all. Maybe you can enlighten me.
  • Have you noticed that parents, (particularly those in show business), that burden their offspring with stupid names, usually have perfectly normal names themselves?
Before you name your child Apple, how about changing your own name to Banana and see how you like it......

A husband and wife are driving home and run over a otter, they get out and find its still breathing but freezing cold. The husband says "Put it between your legs to warm it up" Wife replies "But its all wet and it stinks!" Husband says "Well hold its nose!".

The parents obviously thought it was a beautiful name, very elf or fairy like. Was there an Elf in The Hobbit called Areola? or was it Laybia ?
