Kittel clocked back at the car getting some spray tan for his wrist. Jens poised for solo farewell. So far, no organ voluntaries. Magnificent opening montage to the ITV show. Worth seeking out.

Hear, hear to the opener. Quite moving I thought. But then I am a bit of a sucker for some opera.

Ta, (shamefully didn't recognise it). Maybe should play a tarantella, or Sicila mia Sicilia.

Bit of a stretch maybe to claim Nibali as an honorary mangia polenta, but I am warming up with a nice Rosa dei Frati, to be followed by Prosecco (okish Lunetta). There is some marsalla in the house, but no peaches.

I am probably being slow on the uptake, again, but what is the story behind the green socks Astana are wearing?

All I know is that they were late to the start, because the ASO wouldn't let them wear yellow shorts.

Reminds me of another reason why I SHOULD theoretically like Nibali; no yellow shorts, shoes, bike etc.. Just the jersey, as one should.

Also, ladies and gentlemen, Mister Bjarne Riis:

Nibali looks like he's surviving yellow shorts. Dominance.

Know what you mean, I hate the jersey leaders going all colour co-ordinated. I like Nibali anyway, classy ride, lets see if he can repeat the victory next year.

That photo just gives me another reason to dislike Mr Riis.

When my dog started marking his territory everywhere we had his balls chopped off.

Remember Hincapie's last tour? Question is whether Horner will do the same to Voigtie now! ;)

Kittel off the back again on a mysterious, seemingly unplanned, excursion.

Spectacular fly-past. Quite a tribute to the riders.

55 km/h over cobbles must be such a treat for the GC.

Uh-oh Péraud down. Desperate. Valverde to drill it???

Typical. Happened during a commercial break on Eurosport. Showed no replay.

Peraud just binned it for no good reason. Front wheel just slipped from underneath him. Looked like a fairly heavy hit.
