Oh, hang on, they've got Cavendish on ITV4 to comment. They'll have to hold up pieces of paper for him with small sentences that he can manage to read all written in crayon.

How many times did he say 'so happy'? I haven't seen the interview so I can only speculate.

Geraint Thomas up to best placed Sky rider in 16th. You wonder where he'd have been if not working for others.

I haven't seen the interview either but generally I find him to be one of the most articulate and interesting of interviewees. Not in his word craft but in actually saying things as he sees them rather than spouting the usual banalities.

Amazing season for Rogers. Two Giro stage wins, including one on Monte Zoncolan, and now a Tour win over the Porte Bales. Chapeau.

You have got to respect Rogers. No GT wins then three in a row. Would have not been happy had he lost that given he forged the advance. Voeckler playing to the cameras even more than usual today. Glad I backed Rogers as did Contador, Riis and Oleg. Oleg hugged Rogers at his win at the Giro and Oleg hugged a crying Rogers at the finish again today. Contador tweeted his praise already. Big win.

As for the GC ding dong I loved it. Pleased for Pinot showing whose boss of the French and that Peruad hung in while Bardet cracked. Nibali looked comfortable but was good to see him struggle a touch when Pinot attacked over the top. Love the climb love the descent.

    Porte lost 8mins on GC.

Riblon did ok...maybe riding into some form.

[Obligatory boring post about how my boss raced with Rogers in his youth when they both did some time at AIS]

I'm becoming a bit of a Pinot fan.
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.

And remember that Pinot didnt have that many teammates as they were more for Demare. The guy deserves a whole team at his service.

A beautiful move from Rogers. TV wouldn't want to chase, at least initially, and the other two had some thinking to do too. How to beat the old 1:2. Super impressive to operate like that at the end of a full-on escape.

Kiryienka's ride was almost amazing. Making it as hard as possible might just have worked if Rogers wasn't on such form. Power like that should be deployed in service of Thomas. One day.

Loving Pinot. Been stuck in traffice for most of today so just finished the ITV4 coverage at my hotel. Top banana riding, lets hope he can crack Valverde.

He'd probably have been in contention until Paris to be fair.

Then fallen off a few kms from the Champs.

Neither of the two things you mention, I just find him not too articulate and a bit thick. As far as he goes as a cyclist I think he's been the best at what he specifically does, meaning within the team tactics he (normally) needs to get most of his wins. He's incredibly gifted, everyone knows that.

Anyway, great stage today. Good TDF!
