Hmm, I don't see this as a case of overlapping wheels. The rider in blue starts 2 metres from the curb and apexes the bend IMO. Once squeezed off though, trying to jump back on was pretty dumb.

Yes he could have rolled on the grass and waited for everyone to rush through. But who wants to be at the back of a race trying to catch back on? There was a reasonable amount of space available for him to get back in. If it wasn't for the curb he would have been safe and sound. But unfortunately for him his handling let him down.
Sometime you get squeezed out, you can't just jump into the line assuming no-one is going to be on the wheel. There clearly wasn't space - do you think he even looked? It happened so quickly there is no way he could have.

I'm with @DavidJB. I'm very surprised that the organisers, if they're aware, are happy with videos being published online. Personally I've made mistakes in races, I don't think any have resulted in others coming down but I've hit the deck hard. Were one of these mistakes published online then I'd be asking the producer for a copy of the release form, in fact I don't think I'd be happy being featured at all. @TakeTurns do you ask for permission to film the races?

As an aside I doubt that anyone posting in this thread is an absolute paragon of race craft, I don't think such a think exists. I hope that the posters who're having a go at someone who's easily identifiable, calling them an idiot, muppet and claim they need a slap have never made a mistake nor fallen off a bike. I understand the sentiment but the language being used is extremely condescending. Educate don't belittle.

Hopefully the guy knows how he caused the accident. At the end of the day he found himself off the track and in getting back onto it he took someone else out and could easily have taken others out too.

All of us have made mistakes, I've done it and held my hands up. I've also been wiped out by the mistakes of others. But one of the first things you learn on a club ride, let alone a race, is that if you find yourself off-line then only get yourself back onto it in a way that won't endanger yourself or other riders.

Note - I have slightly edited my original post, merely to tone down a few comments

I can see the organisers putting a stop to cameras on bikes for these events, as has been said before-how long until a video of a crash is used to sue another rider? If we go down that route then it will be a very sad day for our sport. I'm sure no one goes into a race with the intent of causing a crash.

Maybe a few people being taken to court for these things will mean that riding improves.

I've been on the receiving end of a similar crash. If you go off-circuit (to the grass) then stay there until it is safe to re-join. The crash I was in had a guy beak both collarbones and had a nasty fit. Another victim broke one collarbone. I was lucky and only had a nasty graze and £1000 worth of kit damaged. All unnecessary.

That corner is a tricky one. I was run off there a couple of weeks back. The whole pack surges across and cuts the apex giving the guy on the inside nowhere but the grass to go.

Both collarbones!!!!!! That would suck balls!
  • Raced in the 4ths last night. Was fun, thought standard of riding was high (though I was riding near the front for the whole race). No points for me though, wasted too much energy trying some doomed attacks, and trying to get into any of the few potential breaks (that got immediately reeled in).

No crashes, but I believe there was a nasty one in the 2/3 on the corner before the final sprint resulting in a broken collarbone for a Paragon rider and the women's race being stopped.

I saw photographers there, anyone know where the pics will end up?

Hotspanners - I was in the same race. That's the second 4ths only race I'd done on the circuit and was also impressed by the standard of rising. Going off what i read off here and elsewhere, I had a genuine fear that it would be more like a demolition derby. Thankfully that wasn't the case.

Having said that, my pace lining skills needs to improve,I had several accidental Jens Voigt moments off the front which helped nobody, including myself!

Enjoyed last night's 4th race. Still a few people who drift off line. Tried to stay up the front of the race most of the time which was less hairy. Tried a few attacks off the front of the race to see if I could take a few riders away to work with but all failed. Found myself dropping towards the rear of the bunch 2 laps from the end going past the women's race and frustratingly unable to get back up the bunch quick enough. Eventually made up the ground by the last corner only to be boxed in the sprint and roll in 11th.

Did anyone here go to the time trial last night?

Was anything mentioned about racing next Wednesday?
