How do

Righto, I shave my legs, and sometimes use that neet stuff from Tescos, but,, lately, I have been nicking the skin where my brand new varicose veins stick up and my right leg is a bloody mess.

My question is,, who waxes ? does it last? and where can you get it for mucho cheapness ?
Do the home kits work ? or should I persevere with the cream?, which only seems to last a couple of days before I feel all stubbly.

A womans razors do a better job if shaving I found but I got bored of having to do it on a regular basis or the gf noticing I missed a few hairs so now its a wax, lasts 4 weeks or so then another week or two before you have to go again. £20 full legs here, can get it a bit cheaper on the other side of the tracks.

Never tried a home kit, just seems like too much hassle, but the missus says if you do make sure you get a proper wax rather than the sticky strips.

Yes this is a manly conversation

Always found that first shave of season was horrendous as I have very hairy legs and cba shaving in winter. My best discovery was the three-headed philishave electric razor which worked a treat used once a week or so.

Philips electric razor. Use the beard trimmer to take off the long hair at the start of the season and then the three head bit for final part and maintenance. No cuts or rashes.

Just started to wax my legs I use the veet for men wax cream! You apply it leave or for 5-6 mintutes than use the spatular to remove the hair, really good but awakard in paces to get, and I did full legs but just be careful around the man area as it doesn't like it at all and stings a fair bit, will be getting waxed proper later when I man up and go into a shop

Ladies razor (I guess that's what they're for after all) on dry skin works a treat for me.

I find more blades seem to do a better job, but I also shave after a bath so hair should theoretically be softer.

On the off-chance some of you haven't seen them, I'm going to have to refer to the 5* recommendations on Amazon:

Six weekly visit to my local beautician for waxing. We have a right larf ... She does quite a few blokes so I'm told. Not a big deal and not too painful after the first couple of times

    Cheers blokes

Th shaving may have to stop, as I have said, blood everywhere now that my veins stick out like bloody tree roots.

Think I will try getting them waxed by someone that does it for a living,, then take it from there.

How far up do they go when they wax you?

Try an epilator - like waxing but in your own hands so to speak. After the first use the hairs grow back fine...remember that a razor just lops the hair at the thickest point - waxing/epilating allows the hair to grow as intended so is tapered. £45 from the electrical retailer of your choice so worth it in the long run, but no doubt less attractive that your local beautician!

As far as you like, they tend to offer 3/4 or full leg tho

Full leg, bum chest and eyebrows. Only marginally down to cycling. Just don't like body hair and don't see why I should have to put up with it...

I am really confused about this leg shaving that roadies do!
Why do you guys do it? I am told it is useful for the following reasons-
    •nursing cuts after a fall
    •sport massage hurts less
    •aero dynamics
    •vanity

I suppose in the above order of priority as well but really how often are you guys falling off or getting massaged because if I was falling off enough to warrant shaving my legs I would be thinking of a different sport and let's face it it is hardly going to make you faster.

I think hairy legs are faster - like a tennis ball.

As for accidents, I had a bad scrape on an alpine hairpin two or three years ago and shaved the afflicted leg after the accident - it wasn't a pleasant experience though.

I have to keep quiet on this one as the leg shaving makes no sense to me and I guess in may cases it is a grooming preference rather than a cycling need :o

Exactly the same, does come in handy when I find myself injured at least once a month and need physio :)

  • Sun tan lotion is easier to apply and there's less waste when you haven't got monkey legs.

Vanity and the gf likes it. Did nearly grown it again after one of the guys at the club agreed with one of the girls about how nice my legs looked. As long as he doesn't touch!

Sports massages is second then falling off

Can't just be vanity though, can it? I mean I expect many girls like a man with a non-Wiggins like upper body, but you only have to go into the numerous weight training threads to see how that usually pans out...

An element of belonging to a tribe, rituals of the season ... and vanity.

His upper body looks a lot better than

as well, but I suspect more cyclists shave their legs than go to the gym 8)
  • Had em waxed today for the first time.

Holy feckin crap. It was nippy likes !!! After a while it became less so, but there are certain bits that bloody sting when they get done.

We`ll see how it lasts over the next few weeks.

Have been laid up due to a back injury so they were hairier than normal, so that may have added to the pain quota.

Road rash will clean thus heal faster ( avoiding infections ) and if we are honest it just looks better, so, yes! vanity too, it's not compulsory though. Shaving = Aero ? huuummmmm....yeah that is a myth...one must work on overall body weight, shape/size for that one.

I use clippers, then razor...I only shave up to the cycling short line as there is no benefit to do extra.....BTW I do not have monkey legs naturally :)
