I'll do my best to keep you posted here.

Hopefully the raffle prize list will be posted later today and I can CONFIRM there are some Commuting Chat WINNERS! 8)

Secondly, I'm writing this from the summit of the Alpe having completed my first practice climb. I took it at the pace I plan for Thursday and arrived at the finish in 1:30 - pretty much smack on schedule. They've added a brutal sting in the tail so, instead of going through the "tunnel" you go up a short 15% incline (100m I guess). I can see the odd bit of tactical walking going on!

Anyhow - it's pretty much exactly as I expected. It's going to be very tough but also doable. It's pretty warm today and Thursday is currently forecast.

Now to tuck into a bowl of spaghetti carbonara

Looking forward to the updates. Has anyone told you recently that the whole thing is mental and you are insane?
    Good luck all the same.

Yeah, even by my standards, this is nuttier than squirrel shit.

Good luck though, and if you can update via a smartphone after each ascent, do so. You'll enjoy reading it back to yourself in months to come, I promise!

A day chilling and preparing today. Had to go in search of brake pads for the Volagi as the descents really take their toll on the organic pads I fitted in anticipation of wet weather. It's actually been pretty hot here and Thursday is forecast to be the warmest of the week. Anyhow, there's a 45kmh speed limit which means lots more braking on the descents. I followed a car down yesterday (at about that speed) and despite careful braking (not dragging etc) the discs are blue.

I am at least feeling a lot better. I've finally shaken the bug I had which really interfered with my final training. There's now nothing more I can do.

The Garmin 1000 is going back when I get back to the UK on Sat. It's rubbish. If it lasts 8 hours, I'll be amazed - amongst lots of its other failings. I might use it on the day for live tracking but otherwise all other features will be switched off and I'll be running my 800.

Can't believe the number of Dutch people here. 5000 participants and several times as many supporters. I've seen people on the hill who would stun you with their size. Kudos to them for even trying. I can tell it's also going to be emotionally incredibly tough - so many sad stories. Hopefully I can use that to power me up later in the day.

With that number of people 45kmh limit on the descent is probably a good thing. Lots of people with brains disengaged and little experience travelling at speed is the thing that worries me most on big events.
Good luck and look forward to reading all about it.

    Thanks all.

Was awake at 3am this morning so experienced what tomorrow might feel like. Part of the challenge is going to be wearing the right gear - from descending at about sunrise from the top to climbing in the hottest part of the day. The forecast is for the warmest day so far. Not much breeze either.

Also really turning my mind to exactly how I'm going to eat. We have a van at the top so space for keeping food - again, it's going to be a bit about how I feel at the time.

Anyhow - as the motto of AD6 goes
"Giving up is not an option"

    Best of luck, MRS.

I guess if you've got the space in a van, you could take quite a selection of food and just grab what you fancy at each visit.

    3 HC climbs before elevensies!

Yes - our support bus (think Team Sky - then scrub that thought and think Hertz Sprinter van)

The AD6 route is slightly odd. Right. To be on schedule I need to be at the bottom before 12 )my time ) and completed 5 climbs by 5pm my time. Getting hot now....
