One of these...
Or one of these...

The 6R4 was a great group car. Never had one but would have one in a collection given the chance.
I have a 200 years ago and sold it before the price went through the roofLiving MY dream.0 -

I'd happily take one of these if I couldn't get my hands on a flat nose turbo.0 -
Not sure I'd be around for long to spend my money with a Group B rally car. Fancied one in my early 20s when I used to watch a bit of rallying but with hindsight they were just crazy, especially the Renault!0

Should this go in the money no object aircraft thread?0 -
surely if money were no object you would just pick whatever capable chassis matched your requirements and then go to a coachbuilder?
I would have a van with a nice interior for practical day to day stuff and membership of a car club so I could pick and choose but not have to bother with paperwork or servicing"I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel, how good is that"

During the time of it's original competition period, ie the Group B Rallying, the 6R4 was not competitive against it's rtival manufacturers, ie Lancia, Ford, Audi etc - I guess it was ARG who wanted a non-turbo engine for speed of development maybe - but this restricted it's potential for big power .
It did/does still make a Hell of a nice noise to the spectator - I've been to a number of single-venue rallies where well-sorted 6R4's were running and, when wound up, it is one of THE best sounding cars ever.
But a single, money-no-object car for me would be something like a Muira - fast, but probably not much quicker than a quick hot-hatch round twisty roads, very pretty and cool. In bright orange or lime green please.
An alternatively but mad fast car would be Audi Sport Quattro - the last rally version with the SWB but really that is a little too normal looking compared a a 70's Italian Supercar.
Always liked the idea of an X-Pack MKII Escort and if I could squeeze in a turbo Cossie motor that would do fine but it's not really a 'dream' car, it would just be amusingly, stupidly and unexpectedly quick to the uninitiated.0 -
Changed my mind. Forget the Jag, I'll have one of these.

A Citroen 11B, but with a 3-valve 2.1-litre PSA diesel in it, attached to a modern 5-speed 'box and modern brakes and running gear.
But... It would have to be 'many cars as one', so there'd be similarly powered versions as follows:
Avec malle, sans malle, cabrio, faux-cabrio, familiale and commerciale. Although that's six cars, it's really only one type and they'd all be the same colour so that's OK.
As my spare car (you have to have a spare car) I'd like a FIAT 850 spider and as a spare-spare I'd have a 2cv Sahara.0 -

Oh, and a Toyota Hi-Lux for running around in (or my brothers Dodge Ram :P )
Having said that, I saw a TV programme recently on Rolls-Royce, and I have to say if I won the lottery I would have one. The attention to detail is amazing, and I would love to turn up at my mums and take her out for lunch in a Roller.Ecrasez l’infame0 -
After seeing one of these in the metal there's no argument. Must report theft of one human heart.

A pink saloon car that could do 150mph in 1968. Mind boggling.
In 1982-83 a guy I knew clubbed together with friends and went quarters on a pink S1 XJ12 with serious gasket problems and not much Tax or MOT. They paid £200 for it, drove it for a short while and then abandoned it. I was told they took it up to 130+ on the speedo, but that it drank and spewed most of the fluids that cooled or lubricated.
As the price, colour make and model are as in your story, could this be the same car? All four in the consortium lived in the SW London area vaguely between Barnes and Hampton.
Does this match in any way with your story? Was this the very same car and the very same deal?0 -

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
