My impression is that they are more due to rider mistakes, not punctures. I can imagine the field may be reduced for future editions.Pross wrote:

Looks to me like Vansummeren mounted the kerb of the front little island there, milliseconds before the collision, and if so, then he wasn't paying full attention either (there was nothing for him to gain there by doing so, and even without spectators, he may well have crashed because of the step in the island).Pross wrote:

Don't they have gendarmes at close, regular intervals along the route? I think if there were spectators on such an unprotected island in the TdF, the gendarmes would soon chase them.
I don't feel optimistic about the woman, there was nothing but concrete to be knocked head-first down on to.
