  • There's some fascinating cycling stats on that page. It seems your favourite hard working domestique holds the record for the number of stage wins Frenchie.
    Correlation is not causation.

So he does; won when he had to race for a living.

Looks like just the sort of course Cav will enjoy. Forgive me if I don't pick him in my fantasy team.
  • Starts today.

No SKY riding so will get less attention on this forum. Lots of greats riders to enjoy.

  • Dont be a silly, Frenchie :)

Keen to see how Cav goes with Petacchi and Renshaw

Bert's wanting to come right out and slam it

Shorter TT this year which might reduce Martin's chances a tad of a repeat win?

Very keen to see how Kwiatkowski goes, that was a really classy win last week in Mallorca

Yes definitely. Contador said as much also in his latest comments.

Could be an interesting stage, this from Rui Quinta's preview on Inrng:

"it looks like it’s for sprinters, but it’s not. The stage starts in Faro, the main city of the Algarve. At 1.1km before the finish there’s a roundabout riders have to get around to left and last year it caused some troubles. Then has a 500m hill between 6/7%, 100m flat and 500m downhill until finish line"

Well that and the fact that Andalucia, also starting today, is on Eurosport.
“Road racing was over and the UCI had banned my riding positions on the track, so it was like ‘Jings, crivvens, help ma Boab, what do I do now? I know, I’ll go away and be depressed for 10 years’.”

Races starting to come thick and fast. Think I'd rather watch this than Andalucía to be fair - although glad to have one on ES. Season's multi-tasking commences.
  • Ticker on Cnews but not the best:

EDIT: Cnews tweeted the wrong race  they are actually covering the race the skys are riding in.

  • 45ks and the leaders only have less than 2mins. Saxo one of the teams on the front.

  • 20ks. Bunch sprint unless that final rise creates a launchpad for a stinging attack.

  • We'll get them to create a new race across Portugal and Spain for you

  • 10ks Europcar trying to keep it all together for Coquard who is already on winning ways this years and knows how to ride a bosse.

3km to go looks like we are in for a nervy sprint finish (from Twitter feed - all I have at the mo).
  • Unfortunately Sacha Modolo wins.

    I quite like this quote…

"It's a shame that we have to scavenge for information about Contador's first race of the season. #VoltaAlgarve"

Stage 1: 1. Sacha Modolo 2. Rui Alberto Faria da Costa 3. Alessandro Petacchi
  • Oh Lampre 1-2, and nice by Rui. Cav nowhere...

  • Costa 2nd? Eh?

We need a race report pronto

No disrespect to the top 10 but doesn't sound like a straight forward sprint.

    1 Modolo, 2 Rui Costa, 3 Petacchi, 4 Coquard, 5 Napolitano, 6 Démare, 7 Pinto, 8 Schorn, 9 Tsatevich, 10 Lobato
  • Oh Lampre 1-2, and nice by Rui. Cav nowhere...

    93rd
  • Costa 2nd and Cav 93rd in a bunch sprint?
    Who swapped their transponders?
"Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.
  • So...Costa set up Modolo - must have been a monster lead-out

    Impressive

Did Cav get dropped then on that little bump of 6/7% at the end?
