I have had two black frames now and the silver colour way with the red I wasn't that fussed on so newyork taxi yellow it was.
The head set is in and I will start to heli tape the frame this afternoon.

Here is a quick snap of the forks went for x-fusion slant RL2 DLA as I wanted the 34mm stanchions but didn't have the cash for pikes and didn't want revelations. Hopefully it is a good choice and reviews seem good but will have to see how they ride for me.

Very nice looking frame and I like the forks a lot! What are you considering for the drivetrain, I assume you are going to 2x9/10 due to having the front mech? Also any ideas on the wheels?

XT 2x10 groupset from the cotic soul along with the carbon wheels. I have a new 3x10 SLX to replace it and the crank brothers rims are going back on 8) .

Still Toying with going 1x10 with a raceface narrow/wide but need to get fitter first as I hate pushing bikes up hills when I fail :oops:

Loving the look of this build, just about to order some slants. Been swinging towards the pikes but the x fusions just look like amazing value. Where did you buy yours from?

Mine came from wiggle during the sale and I had a voucher to use up . 18 bikes have them on offer at £392 if you are quick.

These bikes are awesome fun to ride. Mine is getting some good abuse and I keep thinking it can take more.
I have got some good pics of mine but couldn't get the links to work. I will upload them somewhere else and link.

I've got a set of X-Fusion Velvets and I've not been disappointed with them. Extremely good value for money compared to the competition and they've soaked up the abuse I've thrown at them without a blip.

I agree the silver n red colour schemes not the best. Yellow with black kit is a nice combo as black with black kit can easily look a bit anonymous.

Frame in stand check



Kettle on ...... Forks in and out steerer cut hope head doctor fitted with carbon spacers.



Hope Bottom bracket in and Xt double ring cranks with canfield brothers pedals.



Brakes fitted



Change of mind on the bars answer carbon pro taper 720s on and the renthals will go on the soul.

I'm finding the front of my Mega quite high and have had to get the bars as low as possible to get more front end grip and keep it down on climbs.

Don't knock it till you try it

I struggle with pain in my wrists and hands and found the 50mm rise worked a treat on the soul so I thought i would initially try them on the mega also it saved a bit of time as i took them off with brakes and shift levers attached
If it is to much for the mega i will drop the renthals back on with a more conservative 38 mm rise or try loosing some spacers.

Climbing shouldn't be an issue as i can drop the forks down to 130 mm travel as the slants are the DLA version.

I will give that a miss thanks! I like my 780mm wide 20mm rise bars with no spacers. I guess you probably wouldn't like my set up.

Make sure you use plenty of heli tape. It's not the toughest paint on these frames.

Cable rub areas including top surface of the bottom end of the down tube, no idea how it's rubbing there but it is.
Underside of the down tube chips easily as well.
If you have a front mech the cable can rub the shock linkage.
I have also taped the top of the top tube to protect from plum wear.

the bottom tube and the steerer tube and the chain stays

At the lower end of the bottom tube top surface is that from the rear brake hose and mech cable loops jumping about?

The cable clips are nice i know what you mean now from your build 8)

No idea whats going on there, I let the air out of the shock and fully compressed it and the cables don't touch the tube but there are rub marks :?

Small update

Changed the superstar switch rear hub from QR to 142x12 and got both wheels mounted.

A quick note on the xfusion slants they can take a 185mm disc with no adaptor as it was banded round on the forums they would only take a 203mm disc.
I hope to get the front deraileur mounted and the cables run along with the chain and dropper post over the weekend.

Rest of the evening I have spent putting the new SLX groupset on the soul.

Have the slants changed for 2014? I've got a set of 2013 and they only take 200mm discs.

They must have,
I offered the wheel up with a 203 fitted and the brake calliper fitted with no adaptor straight on to the fork and it completely fouled. Quick dropped in one of the souls cobalts with a 185 and bingo straight fit no probs 8)
Shame they are not advertising this as for some 203 only is a deal breaker......

So in between house hunting and work i finally got a bit of progress on the mega. all that's left is to fit the new chain, index the gears and set the suspension up...........................however i have to cut myself a large slice of humble pie :oops: and apologize to Rockmonkey SC as yes it is like a chopper!
when i sat on it the front end is way to high at 160 mm travel so the answer 50 mm pro tapers will be coming off and going back on the soul and the 30 mm rise renthal fatbars fitted with a few spacers removed and see how i get on till i can afford another set of carbon bars such as enve or renthal again.
Also not entirely happy with the cable routing which could be resolved with a stealth reverb but that will have to wait some months while i save some pennies.

Nice mate, Ive just bought a Mega Am 275. How come you changed from the fat bars? I bought one last week but not fitted it yet
