    Cancelled :( proper gutted

I got a charity place last year and would suggest doing that to anyone that has missed out.

Whats the craic with that then?

They vary a bit and seem to have upped the prices this year.

Some ask you to say what you will raise and then I guess give them to highest bidders.

BHF were a guaranteed place last year when it was £500. this year its £600 but most are asking more.

I gave up alcohol for 6 months to pay for it but managed to raise all the sponsorship in the end so it worked out fine.

I can go further in that the charity which I support have been allocated a maximum of 50 places and they even had to closed their application process before the official ballot closed simply because they had more than exceeded their allocation.

As part of our application for one of these charity places, we also had to apply for an official ballot.

I suspect that if there are any charity places out there this year, they won't be around very for long!
  • Wiggle offered some extra places nearer the time last year, I posted a link and some people on hear got in - might be worth keeping an eye out on the official sponsors as they all may have some spaces..
  • I did it last year via a charity place but got in on the ballot - we have had about a 50% success rate with the ballot.
  • Well, asking around and my 3 riding buddies who put down the same time as me on the application all got in (we put 4:30-5:00 based on finishing times from people we know who did it last year). The 3 other guys who are a bit newer to cycling and all put between 6:00-6:30 all got cancelled.

Not at all scientific, but a pattern does appear to be emerging from my very small sample.

I put 4:40-4:49 (based on last years time) and seem to have got in.

Have not heard from any buddies yet but the two who I told how to check have not got back to me (so fearing the worse) and they would have been over 5 hours.
Not sure what time wife put but would have been about 6 hours I guess and she did not get in.

Its terrible weather here and would not be surprised if postie did not show today :-(

Again no place via the ballot despite putting in all the evidence that I did do a sub 4.45! Not absolutely gutted as I already have a special charity entry.

Wife's did not come so guessing they are posting the good news out first.
It took a while to get my 'Commiserations' magazine last year I think.

    Got selected.

Work commitments could now be a stumbling block, though.

Life really is a pisser at times.

My "Accepted" magazine is at home :-)
  • Cancelled
Still planning on coming down to London for the day though.

Good news - the link just worked on my pc.

    Bad news - I'm cancelled.

Off to see what charities have places...

    Sorry to hear that :-(

Have a look on the Ride London thread in 'Tours, Routes and Organised rides' section.
There was one for under £400

I am a little suspicious of that charity as it does not seem to appear on the charity list of the Ridelondon website.

Yes, funny I came back on to say that anyone interested should check it out first.

I am even suspicious of the well known charities that want you to pay to register without even guaranteeing a place.
Feel that they may try to get you to donate the fee instead of refunding it if you do not get a place.

Thanks lads I've emailed them, will see what comes up. I've noticed those charities that want a registration fee - not even the same as the entry fee.

I saw some for about £350 last year but they were a bit random.
I went with BHF because it was a guaranteed place and had a connection with family. These two things made it easier to ask for support and I would have been happier making up any shortfall.

Don't forget that charity places will be freed up by people who had one 'reserved' but got in on the ballot.
