RLS100 2014....... Who is on Board?

Wife did not get in :-(0
-
Not that I can see, which is why I will not 100% believe I am in until I see the official notification through the post.0
-
Same here, although wife's said 'Cancelled' so I guess 'Approved' must mean you are in if you did not choose to donate the entry.
Magazine might come tomorrow.
I expected wife to get in and me to get binned.
She does not seem too fussed though and can always do a charity place if she really wants to do it.
Good luck to everyone who has yet to find out0 -
Approved!! No fundraising this year, would have felt a bit bad asking for money for a nice day riding, didnt mind last year as it was my first century0
-
Well done ;-) I hope approved does mean we are in. Waiting for magazine now lol.
I was sponsored last year too and could not have asked people again.
Getting in on the ballot this year will mean I have ages to save up for 2015 if I have to pay then :-)
Hotels booked so going to make a long weekend of it.
Olympic park will be open this year too :P0 -
Can't get the link to work at all (on PC or mobile), there's nowhere to log in when I get to the blue screen.0
-
Its not loading properly so is either busy or you need to try a different device.
Can you borrow someone else's phone?
ipod touch worked perfectly for some odd reason.0 -
We seem to have one such thread in every section of the forum... one here, one in the commuting area, one in the organised rides area... do we want to keep them all active?left the forum March 20230
-
Why is there one in the commuting section? The event is on a weekend
Tour, Routes and Organised Rides is the natural place I guess but as its a big UK event I kind of feel road general is a better place at this time of year.
This is backed up by the fact that this thread has had roughly the same number of views and replies since Jan 22nd as the other one has had since September last year ;-)0 -
Cancelled proper gutted0

Fine by me, just asking...left the forum March 20230 -
Leave my thread alone Ugo lol
Only one in each section is better than last year anyway ;-)
Are you riding in it?
I am looking forward to riding through my old stomping ground (Wandsworth) again.
A bit more gas left in the tank this time though hopefully.
Might try and drive back through Fulham and get a 'Kebab Kid' chicken Shawama (Jamie Olivers favourite kebab I think) as a post ride treat :P0 -

I feel your pain
I remember very well how gutted I was last year (at least it was not red this year though) and I even felt sick when I saw my wife's entry was cancelled.
I was going to try to resist checking online as I found it so gutting if it was a no.
I got a charity place last year and would suggest doing that to anyone that has missed out.0 -

Whats the craic with that then?0 -
Has anyone had anything in the post yet? Had the attached from a charity, at least I know what to look for0

Nothing in todays post :-(0

They vary a bit and seem to have upped the prices this year.
Some ask you to say what you will raise and then I guess give them to highest bidders.
BHF were a guaranteed place last year when it was £500. this year its £600 but most are asking more.
I gave up alcohol for 6 months to pay for it but managed to raise all the sponsorship in the end so it worked out fine.0 -
Cancelled
Im considering doing it for a charity but i feel a bit cheeky asking people to sponsor me for something that
A.) isnt really something that me and others would see as an achievement ( i know it is but its hardly the same as a fat bloke running the marathon, swimming the channel etc....)
B.) Its basically getting people to give me money to go out for a nice ride in the country on closed roads doing something i love.
Anyone else feel like this ??0 -

No, to be honest if I have to enter a sportive, I'd like it to be as far as possible from London...
I have only entered Paris-Roubaix Cyclo in June and if I can get another free pass on the Rapha hell of the North in April, I'll do that one tooleft the forum March 20230 -

Felt/feel exactly the same and I never sponsor (pay for) people who want a free ticket to do something they want to do masking it as charity.
I found myself in a difficult situation last year though.
I thought I would get in on the ballot (not sure why) and was going to ask for sponsorship anyway (as its a big enough /the type of event to warrant it I feel), although possibly not as much.
When I did not get in and got a charity place I felt a lowlife for asking for sponsorship to do something I wanted to do, even though I would have done exactly the same (or at least similar) if I had got a free place.
I had never asked for sponsorship before and never will again so all in all I am happy with the outcome.
I am happy to pay for future Ride Londons, so its not as if I am getting it all free, I have done my once only fundraising and a lot of money will go to charity.
My plan is to pay for future Ride Londons myself if need be. I got in the ballot this year so If I have to pay next year it will average out to about £200 a time which is worth it to me.
Hopefully I will get in the ballot another year so the average cost will be manageable.
I gave up alcohol for 6 months last year (partly for cash, part fitness/training and part added sponsorship challenge) and doing 8 this year.
Its a great event and we make a weekend of it so its no more expensive than a normal long weekend............but a lot more fun ;-)0 -
As I mentioned above, if the actual ride is not a challenge enough for sponsorship, add something that is.
We also did some other fundraising things (boot sale and cake sales etc.) so that we were making an actual effort and not just holding our hands out.
I think people will see through any plan to get a free ticket but if you are honest about it and show willing/make an effort they will support you.
Having a good cause is important too.
Maybe one that has meaning for you or someone you know.
Dont rely on the sympathy vote though. Effort is what people want IMO.0 -

ABSOLUTELY... I would never give you a penny for that.
To make it into a challenge you should ride it on a Boris Bike at the very minimum... if you do it with a bunch of friends it could be fun, I suppose...
Although it's been done already... :?
Or ask Mroli to lend you his Penny Farthing...left the forum March 20230 -
Why not just raise the money 100% by doing something you would consider worthy and then spend it on a Ride London place.
Everyone is a winner then and you will have a clear conscience ;-)
Get a decent charity place now while you can. I did not know what I was going to do (other than pay for it myself) at the time but it all worked out and the ride was fantastic.
You sound as though your moral compass is working which is the main thing.0 -
Status: Approved
That's good right? What date was this on again - since entering the missus fell pregnant, due in July so fingers crossed the little bugger isn't late!0 -
Cancelled which came as no surprise!0
-
Asking around and not one person i know who entered has got a place. On the other hand i have already been approached by 3 charities offering me a space riding for them.
I might just be bitter as I didn't get a space but it does annoy me that these events allocate so many spaces to charities !
Anybody know how many spaces were allocated to charities this year ?0 -
Boris said he wanted it to be the biggest fundraising cycle event in the world so it is going to have to have a lot of forced charity places and charity type riders.
Don't be bitter, just get a place and feel good about being in
I am a bit suspicious that they kept the ballot open well above the 80,000 limit. It took so little time to reach 50,000 that it should have been full in 48 hours max 8)0 -
My status says ‘cancelled’. But it said that last year too - and I still got a ride as part of a cycling club team entry.
I don’t know whether it's the case again this year, but in 2013 entries from British Cycling affiliated clubs were automatically accepted. Teams of 5 riders - no ballot.
I managed 4 hours 08 mins0 -

Was this automatic if you had put your cycle club name down? Or do you need to enter again as a club at a later date?0 -
It was closer to the date. IIRC British Cycling approached the club inviting us to enter0
