So finally got most of the pieces together to enable me to start this build, just got wheels, cassette, chain and seat post to buy. Unfortunately i did have the seat post but its actually the wrong diameter  and chain reaction don't have the 27,2mm so need to source it again.

Anyway, just thought I would upload some pictures so far. Should have more in the next few days as the build progresses but I apologise now as I'm not the most skilled photographer ever.

Hopefully should have the stem and bars fitted tomorrow along with cabling and shifters. P.S i know there are a lot of 3T carbon bar / stem / seat post haters on here so do me a favour and just don't look.

  • Thanks bender, I'm still in shock about how light the frame is, I'm starting to think fully built up it may be lighter than my focus izalco pro 3. Don't suppose you have a list of the torque settings for the frame? Just need the setting for the headset cap / stem clamp / brake mounts and front mech.
  • Mech, doesn't really matter. Just take care.

Stem and bars I did to whatever the manufacturer of those said, so 6nm (FSA). Headset I just did up. All seems fine.

It's going to be really light. It's surprising.

I "gave away" 700g or so by going from my Canyon carbon to the stock Acciaio. Fork was pretty much the same. But I got some of that back in lighter wheels (about 150g), SRAM Exogram chain set (about 200g there), and bars and stem (about another 200g or so). Speedplays lighter as well. So I'm almost back to where I was before, hovering around 7kg.

What's wrong with 3T finishing kit?

Nothing, there was a debate on having carbon bars but particularly stems in road buying a few days ago.

Personally, buy what makes you happy. Particularly if you're building something your OCD about, as I am.

Love that frame, out of interest how long from ordering did it take to arrive?

    Nice...
  • thanks for all the comments so far, The bike took 5 weeks to arrive which was quicker than the 7-8 weeks they originally quoted.
Disco, as bender mentioned, there was a thread recently about buying carbon bars and stems and mainly seemed to ficus around 3T stuff, personally I love carbon stems and bars and personally notice a difference. I have alloy bars and stems on my focus and even just switching to the carbon stem i noticed a lot less road buzz and less numb fingers caused by vibration. Saying that, there is a lot of vanity to, this is personally going to be my dream bike build so i wanted every part to be exactly what i wanted right down to titanium pedals, my money my choice i guess.

Anyway, continued on the build today and got the stem and bars fitted along with the shifters initially in place. Also spent some time threading the cable housings through the internal cable route in the bars which took flipping ages, will definitely look like a tidy job once fitted with no bulging cables under the tape. Tomorrows job will be just to finish off the cabling and get the shifters set up.

Definitely getting closer to having to buy the wheels now, not sure how i can sneak these past my wife though. Just curious but do people pre fare the fulcrum racing zero or the magic equivalent wheels, can't quite remember their name though.
  • Eurus or shamal I guess. I would, though I tend to feel, OCD wise, that fulcrum belong with sram and shimano

  • Some more completed. Nothing is torqued up yet so a lot of adjustment to be made but all the cabling now finished anyway.
Oh, and before anyone says anything, i know the garage is a complete mess

  • If I were you though I'd move the shifters up the bar a bit and angle the bars down a bit, otherwise it looks all funny and hard to use.

:?: they seem spot on to me...

+1. Looks good and fine to use - just how mine are set up.

Looks like 3T have redesigned the Ergonova a bit.

Watching this build I am seriously thinking about getting one of these instead of the Baracchi that I am planning for my retirement.
  • hard to tell at the moment if they bars and shifters are set correctly. The bars are set as per the specs on the 3T website regarding angle but the shifters may need to come up by a degree or two.
3T have indeed changed the ergonovas recently, they redesigned the drop shape and included the internal cable routing which was a complete nightmare to thread both cables through.
Regarding the wheels, I do like the 3T deep profile rims but very expensive and not sure if i can justify it, thinking of going for the Fulcrum racing zero as they are pretty sturdy and light plus the kind of riding Im doing deep section rims arnt going to be much help.
Just had an email to say that my torque wrench should turn up on monday along with the Titanium speedplays so not much really left to do.
  • hey mm1, hard to tell at the minute as i have no idea how this will ride yet, could ride like a complete and utter dog for all i know but certainly looks pretty. saying that, if it was good enough for the tour of Brittan then good enough for me LOl

This is a sweet build my friend. Is this a bespoke colour scheme?

Focus, as mentioned on Bender's thread I have a standard Acciaio (2007), which gets used for club runs winter training and touring holidays (basically riding round the Cotswolds when I visit my Mum), but would also make a fantastic crit bike for someone who has the legs. The less said about the one outing it's had at MK bowl, the better, but it was the pilot who was lacking, not the bike.

I expect your Super Ac will live up to its name and am really looking forward to hearing how it does.
  • hey solboy, no its not a bespoke color, its the team rapha colors, there is a guy on here who is waiting on a bespoke paint job which im dying to see as i bet it will look stunning. you can pretty much ask for any paint scheme you like from what i know but obviously pay extra for it.

I hope you weighed the bare frame. In your smaller size I reckon 1550-1650g. If you didn't better strip her and do the needful. :-) I realize this isn't WW where every part is photo'ed on a kitchen scale, but that is the only way.

Don't worry about the bar/shifter angle until the bike is siting on its wheels and level. Don't tape the bars until you've ridden at least 10 km around your place on it. Since taping is such a faff I notice that several people on this forum would rather ride an abortion of a position than do things properly.

You could have opted for cross-your-heart cabling but the way you've done it looks nice too.
    When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.
  • Unfortunately i didn't weigh the frame seperately. as much as im curious i would rather just look at the finished weight as i will be comparing it to the full weight of my ficus izalco.
Agree with you regarding the shifters and bar angle, nothing is fixed in position yet as it takes quite a few miles to suss it out for definate, same as the position of my speedplay cleats. Bar tape is definately also the last thing to go on as its A. bright pink, B. a bitch to install, C. may need to come off again to adjust bars and D, its like the icing on the cake and needs to be left to the end.
I originally did have the cables cross though but didnt quite like how much the rubbed on each other underneath, still think it looks tidy but not much different to when i had them crossed.

    Thats me LOL .

Custom paint job is £150 surcharge on top of the stock colours , a pricey upgrade but i think when you spend best part of £1200 on a frameset you might as well get your desired colour .

I did get a mock up impression of what the frame would look like from Condors Designer Ben but until i get to see it in the metal so to speak i wont know the true look , i will be running mine with Campag groupo and Deda cockpit along with some DT Swiss 240 hubs on Pacenti SL23 Rims .

Have to say yours is looking stunning mate , look forward to seeing the finsihed result .
  • Got a nice surprise today when these finally turned up.

Only leaves 3 things now to buy, seems to be taking a flipping age getting all the parts bought.
  • Good choice. I went stainless and might get the £30 Ti spindles from eBay at some point. They are lovely things.

  • That they are, I use the Crome alloy ones on my focus and a set if titanium frogs on my MTb, personally wouldn't use anything else and don't know why everyone doesn't use them. The titanium are a bit of a luxury purchase though.
