Lets be absolutely clear about this..........

    No one is listening.

    /End of thread.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

We have to put up with the ads no matter what. Although they seem sporadic at best, sometimes they are not there at all , which is nice.

But of course not. The advertising agencies provide dishonest data about the effectiveness of their campaigns. The naïve advertiser chooses to believe this and so continues to pay for the adverts. BikeRadar laps up the revenue and the only loser is the incompetent forum user who can't/won't block the adverts - and hopefully there aren't too many of those.

The ideal solution is that everyone blocks the adverts. That way really the only loser is the advertiser who a) deserves to be the loser for buying the crap that the agency sells them in the first place and b) still naively believes what the agency tells them so doesn't actually think they are losing anyway. So it just becomes an idiot tax and there's nothing wrong with that.

    True.
But threads like this have been running for months and made zero difference.
Conclusion - No one is listening so just load software to block the ads.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

WHY ARE YOU USING INTERNET EXPLORER?

I have Firefox as well (but only because Strava stopped working on IE) - but I have IE because my computer builder tells me off if I bring the computer in and I haven't got IE as default

    Really? I hope you're joking ;)

Chrome is really the best browser out there by far. If you haven't tried it I highly recommend it - lightweight and very fast!

TBH, I'm not too fussed what I use as long as it does what I want and IE generally does. I wouldn't touch Chrome with a bargepole on principle because it is like these adverts - it forces itself in. Twice recently I've inadvertently ended up with Chrome replacing IE despite me not asking for it and it has been mildly irritating to get rid of. So, for being impolite, no matter how good it is, Chrome is banished forevermore from my computer. Had it not kept behaving like a virus I may well have tried it and found it to be good. Sadly, that will never happen.....

Not a big fan of Chrome (hate the user interface) and tend to stick with Firefox, which is a lot faster on Linux than Windows. However, you could try Chromium, the free browser that Google take and add their own shite to. They're essentially the same browser, get updated side by side (so a new version of Chromium triggers a new version of Chrome) only Chromium doesn't have any of Googles spyware and other crap embedded into it.

I listened and Googled it but can't work out how to do it (when I try to go for static IP it doesn't show any of the data that it apparently should be there automatically.
  • I have no ad blockers on my computer, and in the past week I have had to click 'X' 3 times because of ads.

If your life is so busy, or it is such an inconvenience I think you really need to re-evaluate what gets your blood boiling.

@mm .. Doesn't get the blood boiling but is more than a minor inconvenience. When accessing this site on an iPad the screen is jumping around so much because of these infernal ads that it becomes almost unusable. Clicking a link is very difficult because the link just moves randomly. Not a pleasant experience at all. One that myself and many others have reported in the prescribed manner but have been largely ignored. I have no probs with ads per se but if they prevent you from using the site then that strikes me as not being sensible.

Mountain Monster, I can't quote you sorry as that betting ad is blocking the quote button and I can't even see the x to close it. It is making the forum a pain to use on the iPad (I just inadvertently opened a Nespresso ad that appeared just as I went to press the next page button). It isn't making my blood boil but it makes using the site frustrating.

Mikey, will give it another try thanks.

I was a little concerned at doing this in case I was introducing something catastrophic to my iPad but it's been very stable for a couple of months now ... Here's a link that you guys might like to follow if you want to check it out

Does that suggested DNS IP include 'family friendly' filtering? I've already changed my router to at least show some effort at being a responsible parent, and if it's a case of allowing ads through or having unfettered access to the darker side of the net for the kids, I know which one wins out. Does the suggested advertising blocking DNS include smut filtering?

Is it really that simple, I'm not techy in the slightest and would be worried that I'd bugger the ipad up

  • I don't know what all the fuss is about. The ads introduce me to lots of new products which I otherwise might never have been aware of. In the run up to Christmas this is especially important for me because I have no friends or family and so have to buy my own Christmas presents. So far I have bought myself a copy of Dead Rising 3 and Ryse, Son of Rome. I can hardly wait for Christmas morning!

Don't forget to send yourself some money in a card too so that you can have a flutter on that gambling site that the bear advertises
