They're silver with blue pins. Bash is in place of the big ring, so it'll protect a 32-34 middle ring.
  • Brilliant, how much for the vaults?

I didnt use my granny or my big ring today though, so I'm still considering going 1x9... :? Hmmmm decisions.......

I am thinking about doing the same with my Bizango. I don't think I have left middle ring since picking my Voodoo up six weeks ago.

I get rarely use the granny ring, but as the bizango weighs over 14kg I would go to 2x9 at most, maybe 24/36 or 38.

Out of interest has anyone weighed the components up? I've heard that the wheels are pretty damn heavy and would be a first look for weight saving.

  • The wheels aren't too heavy(for a cheaper bike) i've compared the wight in hand to the front wheel of my mates Specialized Carve 29er, and i'd say there's max 500g difference. Tbh there pretty strong as ive absolutely hammered mine at Trail centres and also doing local riding.

Bike is running okay at the moment, miniscule amount of play in the rear hub and i need to have a look at the headset at some point, other than that no worries. Its been hammered at Llandegla, FoD and Cannock and has never let me down! I think that some new wheels may be on the cards soon, hopefully i'll lose some weight off the wheels as they are a little bit on the heavy side.

  • I recently had to take my Bizango into the LBS to have my rear mech looked at after struggling to get 'clean' shifts, I fiddled myself but nothing seemed to work and it seems I have bent my mech and hanger, but the bike tech also said I had play in my rear hub which is not helping the shifting. I also need to service my headset as the bottom set of bearings are grinding, grease gun bought and set to sort it this weekend.

I have looked at buying some new wheels for the voodoo but haven't been able to settle on a set. Whatever I buy needs to be suitable for if I buy a Cotic Solaris any time soon.

That's not good, I've been commuting on mine as well as mtb and the bearings are all still holding up fine

Is it okay to just put grease in the headset as that is exactly what's happening to mine? And the play in the rear hub, but it's not affected the shifting and it's the wheel moving, not the cassette :/

yeah I watched a few videos of Headset servicing and it seems pretty straight forward. The hardest part on my Bizango will be getting the sealed bearings out of the cups, seem a bit tight in there.
  • Fair enough, we've got a new LBS in town now so I'm gonna take I in there and see what he says about it, I already had a word with him about the headset and he said he will have to take a look :)

Stickerbombed my Bender Fender, used a craft scalpel to go round the outside, stuck it on then did the same with the little holes from the inside.

Well in the end I ran my Bizango into halfords to have the lower part of the headset sorted after struggling to find any info on how to remove the bearings, they replaced it. Grabbed it back today and hope to get a short ride in tomorrow after work. It has been a long time since I was last out.

Fair enough, I could easily take it into Halfords but I'm gonna support the new LBS, just need to have a word with them about most of the bikes on display, they're all weird shapes with bent handlebars! Waiting till may to get some new wheels for mine, probably gonna go for the Superstar XCX's, seem to get decent reviews and they're right in my budget! Perfect!

I am planning wheel upgrade and was going to ask for some of the forum users opinions in the buying advice section so it might be worth popping your head in there over the weekend.

Evening all, this afternoon i picked up my Bizango from halfords after having the frame replaced because of this:
    162E4B04-3580-4EDE-B342-58B6320694C1_zpsfgmph6mu.jpg
Luckily frame was one day inside warranty and getting a replacement was easy enough, also got a new headset (which it genuinely did need), BB, Crankset, Chainrings, Cassette and Chain completely free of charge! Cant complain really :D Also picked up some ridiculously wide bars in the on-one summer sale.
    Just picked it up:
    9897741C-C859-43D3-B1D8-3B07983C2D74_zpsi2ae44bd.jpg
New bars vs the old ones:
    8EF82536-8DE9-4BE5-9557-6DDE8D3D937F_zpsvnemyb7c.jpg
and fitted: (although after a ride i rolled them forward a little)
    55C68605-29C0-4087-95E4-6D9B84A61076_zps6iyed5mv.jpg
First impressions on the bars are positive, need a few more rides with them to decide if they get trimmed though. Which they probably will.
Oh and i took the reflector off the rear wheel now

It may be the camera angle but are the bars fitted right mate? They look like they are pretty swept back, almost like the Rise is the sweep? if that makes sense

    It cracked ;)

That was exactly the issue, hence why I rolled the bars forward after a ride, there is only a very slight rise though, so I don't think the camera angle helped ;)

Is that the inside of the chainstay? Looks like the tyre has worn through the metal, no cracking. A tyre will wear right through aluminium in no time.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Totally agree, the tyres have been changed from the stock X-Kings and as a result the wider tyre has definitely weakened the frame.

Still, halfords want to keep all their customers happy so they did the right thing

It has worn through as well, and i was actually very surprised that they replaced the frame, but the crack also went over the top of the chainstay, anyway it's sorted now ;) - oh and actually it originally had Maxxis ardent 2.25's, and I kept the font but changed the rear to a narrower Conti Mtn King 2.2 as the rear Ardent seemed particularly puncture prone :)
