That was good fun. Weather, tail wind (for the first 2/3 anyway...), great atmosphere. Good job Alan A.
I mad it in 8:03 (on bike time 7:20), not great but pleased that I made it at all. Felt quite strong at the end so maybe should have pushed harder.
I wasn't the only guy with a big belly flogging up the hills, but I reckon I was the only guy with a big belly flogging up the hills on a pig-iron bike with downtube shifters.0 -
I was following the 'live' pics being posted on the Facebook site. It did look good.
If it's run again next year, i'll definately sign up... 8)0 -

It was indeed a great day out. It was pretty much faultless from an organisational perspective, the route was great, pit stops plentiful if required and a good atmosphere at the end. Even the bus back from Aviemore added to the sense of occasion. Definitely one to do each year.0

Thanks for posting the clips Alan, makes me feel worse now knowing what I missed
Sent you an email0 -
Another thumbs up from me. Toughest day on a bike I've had for sure. The last 9 miles were tough as hell (not to mention the first climb on The Lecht ..... 20% my ar5e!!).
Pretty slick in Aviemore in the morning, relaxed at the start and a real good atmosphere at the stops. A higher standard of "bikemanship" than a lot of aother sportives I've ridden.

Could you give rough idea of what this compares to? Anything like this with a broom wagon terrifies me - having to get in a broom wagon, not really the ride itself which I'd finish (eventually) Managed Etape du Tour this year before the wagon - is this worse??0
-
It's 104 miles and 2900m climbing.
It has 5 main climbs. The 3 pistes (Glenshee, The Lecht and Cairngorm) plus Gairnsheil and Bridge of Brown.
They 3 biggies are evenly spaced 50km, 100km and 150km. The worst bit for me was Cairngorm being the last 12km and all uphill. The 14km+ decent from Glenshee is amazing!!
I was in the saddle for about 7hrs 30 start to finish including a short break at Gkenshee and a reasonable break at The Lecht. I'm a big unit (195cm and 110kg) and I managed it.0 -

This year's broom wagon had only 4 people in it on arrival at Cairngorm. IIRC another 2 or 3 withdrew due to mechanicals and got picked up by others. So 7 out of 700 means it is very doable if you can do the Etape du Tour.
In other news... How about this for our next project?
