Not when they're free...
whether their finned or not, shimano pads aren't as good as either brake authority or nukeproof pads.
unless shimano are seriously bad (which they are not) or BA/NP pads are seriously good (which they are unlikely to be) I doubt you can tell the difference.0 -
There is a definite difference. And the Brake Authority pads are powerful from first use, they don't have the same smooth finish pads normally have.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Nope, sintered. They grind the surface. It's almost like being half bedded in.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

That sounds like you don't understand what bedding in is/ does.....certainly it's not grinding the surface, in fact it's pretty much the opposite!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

It's not bedding in but it does remove the glazed surface. Bedding in involves the pads wearing to match the surface of the disc.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

How can new pads be glazed? They may be better, but not the way you are describing it!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Ok, not technically glazed but they do have a coating on them to protect them in shipping etc.
A lot of racers will rub down new pads with sand paper or a fine file before use to bed them in faster.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Sounds like the misguided folk who try "scrub in" new bike tyres with sandpaper...0

No, a light (very light) abraiding of the surface from the as made state can aid bedding in on resin pads, waste of time on sintered.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Amazing what old wives' tales some folk will swear are facts, lol...0
