Interesting couple of days. All English final for the first time in a long time. Now which team do we hate less?"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

Said like a true Chelsea supporter.
Shouldn't we be happy for the Spuds and the Scousers?seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
I know I can't find leanings either way, it would be a worthy winner whichever team won it.
I wonder if Kane will be fit by the 1st June.0 -

its going to be like watching the Carabao cup.

Bah humbug."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
But... Anfield and the Spuds new ground befit the CL stage.
...and (inescapably) PL teams are littered with foreigners. They just play for clubs that happen to be in un-glamorous Engerland.
My liking for Barca is borne out of the city and the camp Nou, to which I have frequented on numerous occasions. In fact, I have been to the camp Nou more than Highbury, the old Leicester ground, Aston Villa and 1 or two others put together.
But... what I will say is that Barca, Real Madrid and Bayern have dominated the CL for too long and it's good to see other teams in the final. If the big 3 (^) keep dominating, it will put people off.
Barca suffered from a huge dollop of arrogance and complacency. Even when it went 3-3, the reaction from the players was woeful and so woeful, they let in a corner whilst their back were turned. there was no urgency. They rely too much on Messi as did RM rely too much on Ronaldo.
When Messi hangs up his boots, La Liga should open up a little but what it illustrates is that a good team is greater than the sum of all it's parts and, it is a team affair; a collective. The collective spirit of Liverpool and Tottenham was far greater than all the teams in Europe littered with stars but lacking in the same collective spirit.
If you love football, then you have to love the football that played out over 2 games. if it's about your loyalty to a team, then you love that belonging to a tribe more than the football itself. You are therefore, not a true fan of the game*.
So I am disappointed not to see Barca in the final but you have to hand it to 2 teams who faced a mammoth task and over came huge odds and played fantastic football with guts and determination.
You have to like Klopp. You have to like his honesty and his motivational abilities and the way Liverpool play. 2 CL finals in a row! That's no fluke and cannot be considered as un-glamorous.
When were Ajax last in a final? What's glamorous about Ajax?
Some of the Spuds fans were intermingled with the Ajax fans and apart from some beer being spilt, there was no animosity or violence and that has to be commended.Stevo 666 wrote:Pinno wrote:Matthewfalle wrote:be more entertainig than the 2-1 borefest it will be.
Bah humbug.
*However...
The w@nkers were singing 'shame about the Arsenal' !! Yes, come on Scousers. Wtf is that about? Is being higher than Arsenal in the league more important than a CL final?seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -

Think I'll support the Spuds as the Ar$e fans will never live it down having a the CL trophy in a cabinet just down the road. Must have bad enough when it was in SW6"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -

Barca didn't deserve to go through because they didn't work hard enough for it, they are nothing like the team of 5-6 years ago. Being caught out at a corner for the fourth goal like they were is a sign of a fatigued team that isn't 'on' it mentally. Messi admitted he was nearly sick in the second half of the first leg because Liverpool worked them so hard and they struggled to cope. If you add to that Barca rested pretty much the whole 11 at the weekend whilst Liverpool had to go to Newcastle and fight to stay in the PL race, only for Liverpool to then again work them over physically in the return leg, it's safe to say they didn't put the hard yards in and got punished for it. It's no good skimping on the work ethic and hoping the little fella finds a bit of magic at some point.0 -

That's about right.
They only need to scrap for 20%(?) of their games.
Anyhoo, Valencia scored in the first 10 mins but Arsenal equalised quickly. An away goal, come on Arsenal.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
Yay Frankfurt scores*.
Yay Arsenal scored again. Valencia fans have gone quiet. Lets shut the spud fans up by sneaking in through the CL back door.
*Maybe the transfer embargo has just sunken in to the players.
Maybe the fact that Hazard wants out and without him, group qualification in the CL will be improbable.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
Arsenal going through. Chelsea going out. As it looks like the now, flitting between the BT channels.
And as he types Valencia score a 2nd. Just the 3 more to go then...0 -
