A bit of my thoughts on what you need to think about next year for PBP 2015:

Just one goal. Ride London in under 5 hours.
Aiming for 4'40" but anything starting in a 4 will look good on the certificate :D
If its similar weather to this year I will just take an extra drink and not bother stopping.
  • 1, Main plan for the year is a century. I have done a couple of metrics this year so need to step up. Possibly the Carten 100 or just a long day out on my own.
2, I go to the lake district a couple of times a year and need to start riding over the passes rather than around the Lakes.
3, to assist with the above a new bike. I am on a £350 Claus Butler with standard Chainset. I want compact and to loose 3 - 4 kilo from the bike. Ideally more from myself.

I posted my goals this time last year then had a terrible winter and failed to achieve any of them so I'm keeping quiet this time! I do have unfinished business from one of last year's goals in particular and that will be a target for me again this year. The one goal I will state publicly is to enjoy riding more than I did at the start of last season (which probably means not setting any other goals!!).
  • MS 150 in April
    First Crit in May 2014
Ride around the bay 150 miles
Hotter 'N hell hundred road race

Qualify for BBAR certificate - Average of best speeds over 50 miles, 100 miles and 12 hour TTs has to be over 22mph.

Little bit daunting as the longest TT I've ridden so far is a 50. And I've only done 2 of those in 5 years racing. And they've both been crap....

But should be a good challenge :)
  • I have entered the Alpine challenge for next September organised by HotChilli.

Don't know if i have bitten off more than i can chew..

Maybe do the same with Giro routes!

You've got me thinking about this now, is this an organised thing or something off your own back?

Fuck off. I can't do 22 on the club 10, are you seriously saying people do 22 mph solo on 100 miles? Man i'm crp at bikes.

My main goal that I've been thinking about for quite a while is to do LEJOG some time around the end of May.
It's most likely going to be supported but that gives me an excuse to do it again unsupported some time in the future.
I'd also like to do 150 miles in 1 day as I did 120 a couple of times this year and would like to step it up that bit further.
Other than that I'd just like to average 100 miles per week over the year and try not to crash. :)

Not got any particularly inspiring goals at the moment - I'm waiting for inspiration to take hold. But the list at the moment is:

    1. London - Paris in 24 hours
    2. One or more of these sportives - Jurassic Classic, Dartmoor Classic, Dragon Ride, Tour of Wessex
    3. Pre-qualifying rides for Paris - Brest - Paris
    4. Riding first 2 stages of the Tour over w/e before the Grand Depart

Still need to think of something that really excites/daunts me though!

Well i've now got a busy May and June sorted:

    9th - 19th May - LEJOG (933 miles)
    3rd - 6th June - Raid Pyrenean East to West (441 miles / 12850m ascent)
    8th - 12th June - Raid Pyrenean west to East (450 miles / 11000m ascent)

Oh god what have i done!! :D
  • Amongst other things see how close I can get to six hours for the Ventoux triple
  • Well mine will be more complicated than I was expecting it to be! Firstly I need to get over my traumatic brain injury (non bike related) & get back in the saddle. However, I have been positive & booked things to aim for. Before the injury in August I was planning La Marmotte as a priority, & also to do the Tour of Wessex.

I've booked my La Marmotte package with Col Conquerors (highly recommend), & have booked my Dragon Ride place too. Also booked a week in Spain with Vamos Cycling as a bit of a nice training week. Plenty more to sort yet.

March: Spring Onion, Wiggle No Excuses
    April: Week training in Spain
May: Fred Whitton (hopefully), Tour of Wessex
June: Evans King Of The Downs, Dragon Ride, Wiggle Long One
July: La Marmotte & a few more Central Alps rides, hopefully the Mt Cenis double

I was planning this before my injury (a bad one) having just done 2 weeks good riding in the Alps, & new it easily achievable if I trained well including most if the winter, it will still be achievable, but now a bit more of a challenge me thinks!

    Now where are those stabilisers?

    Good luck with that ...
  • Clearly I am in exalted company on this forum. My goals are very modest in comparison.

    1. Cape Argus in March. Don't care about the time, just want to complete it unscathed.
    2. A single ride with over 2000m ascent.
    3. Improve my triathlon team cycling leg time.
    4. Spend shed loads on more bike stuff. (More of an inevitability than a goal).
    5. Reach and maintain target weight of 85kg. 15kg down, 5kg more to go.

Have just signed up for the club TT league team, so adding my first foray into competitive cycling to my earlier stuff.
(And buildingba TT bike, frame already bought.)
  • Get in my first ever decent winter base training in despite having a newborn.
I have some unfinished business with a 135mile loop in the Lake District which saw me unceremoniously dismount on Hardknot after 115 miles so plan on using this as a training ride 6 weeks before the 300km route of next years Dragon ride.
Doing a reasonable time for the Dragon ride.
Take 30mins off last years Etape Cymru time (have improved every year so far but this will be a big leap)
And lastly use all of the above as a base to do well in my 2nd Central cyclocross season next winter as I'm loving my first foray into this discipline this year.

Now I should print this off and stick it to my wall.....
  • My plans all seem to be in/around May and then I'm pretty open to suggestion for the rest of the year -

End April a week in Majorca where I'm doing the Majorca 312.
    Fred Whitton
    3 day Tour of Wessex
Might be going to the alps for a week in June

Gonna have to do some proper training for this lot...

  • Nunowoolmez, thanks for the links - i will give this some serious consideration. Unfortunately i've booked for 2014, so will be year after. Dont think i could get away with two solo holidays in a year !!

No worries man, if you do a bit of extra research online & on the website you will find some excellent reviews. I pretty much made my mind up on them & then read the article in Cyclist, & that firmed up my decision. Worth reading if you can! The roads sound lush! I did a 2 week thing in Majorca in Feb this year which was ace, & would also recommend it as a destination, I fancied somewhere different. They will answer any questions you may have & the comms with them have been faultless so far. Man I can't wait!!
  • Compared to many, my aims as a relative newbie are rather modest, but a target isn't worth anything if you don't share so here goes!
    1. Lose weight. I know BMI is a moot scale and is only really popular because it is easy to calculate, but aim is down to 25 by June. Currently at 30. That will make other goals significantly easier!

    2. Get over Rivington without a stop. First time I tried Rivington I had to pause a little as my heart rate hit 187. I am 47!

If I can achieve those, I am tempted to reward myself with a new bike. Tempted by Titanium...

    3. I did the Manchester to Blackpool this year for the first time, and enjoyed it despite frustration at the six-abreast numpties in the first few miles. I was amazed at the speed I managed, but the aim is to better my time ths year.

    4. First century. The MtoB is a metric century, I'd like to do imperial.I have registered in the ballot for ride London, but if I don't get in I'll want to try another one, even if I do it solo.

    Paul.
