Is the obsession with him a sort of martyr type thing? Or more of an Italian thing, that I don't understand? :?0 -
If I had the money I would get it myself. I think it's cheap if the provenance can be proven. (Sorry my Italian is not what it should be so I can't work it out)0

I've waited a long time to do this, bespoke @TimothyEverest dinner jacket. Fleming would be proud.

This is one area where you and I agree dennis
This sort of thing sums it up - http://pages.rapha.cc/uncategorised/pantani-statement - but I don't really agree with itWe're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence
- @ddraver0 -
The difference between Pantani and Armstrong is that Pantani wasn't a bully. His is a tragic story unfortunately but he was a real character and animated the race when he rode
I grew up watching Pantani, Riis, Ulrich etc and you have to just accept that the majority of your favourite riders from that period were dopers, that was part of the sport (And one that we have hopefully seen the back of in the majority)
You can't hate riders from that era for doping, and I don't suppose that's why most people hate Armstrong (I personally don't hate him but I know certain aspects of him are not very nice) they dislike him because of all the lies, slander, bullying etc.0 -

Well as you know people like to pick and choose which dopers are "cheaters who ruin the sport" and which ones "only did it because everyone else did". Personally I don't dislike Pantani for the choices he made or the lies he told any more or less than Armstrong, Millar, Landis, Vino etc.
I think it's almost a fashion thing. One of my former teammates has a Pantani T-Shirt, but doubt he'd wear it if it had Floyd Landis' mug on it.
Seems that in a lot of cases death makes people a little or a lot more famous. All seems forgiven when you die. And maybe it is. :?0 -

Guy at work just got one of those.
I was a little disappointed - couldn't spot much of a difference - but perhaps that's the way he got it cut.0 -

I think Pantani was quite famous before his death to be fair0 -

2 things, first (only) Italian Tour winner since Gimondi - its been a long and difficult wait for a successor to Coppi and Bartali.
Second, still a catholic country, so maybe there's a greater willingness to turn a blind eye to *ahem* certain indiscretions (anyone who has seen the crowds of hookers working the slip roads of Italian motorways - something Tim Moore comments on in his new book, or has studied the ways of Italian political life will understand the somewhat fluid ethical stance that Catholicism enables).0 -

I'm not sure just as you are about to quit being a pro cyclist id the best time to get a bespoke suit. He should have given himself a chance to fill into his more sedentary life first (as someone who put on 4 stone over 5 or 6 years after giving up low level amateur racing I know these things!).0 -

6k for his pink jersey....................
Having stayed about 3km from where his family live and where he once lived and seeing the obsession with him I'm surprised it's that cheap TBH
As sports memorabilia goes, that's reasonable:
Wayne Gretzky jersey
And he's not even dead...It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -

Call that an expensive brake...
I sold a pair of them for £147 on fleabay, 5 years ago
Between changing nappies and juggling kids, trying to watch the Giro recently, I glimpsed a Wilier frame with gold forks, white frame and black seat tube - looked really cool.
Couldn't find it in all 114 pages of this thread!
Anyone?seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -

Not sure if it's the same this season but last season the Columbia riders could have their own colour scheme design, presumably to promote Willier's custom paint service0
