Right now I feel that is the final nail in the coffin for me. Not sure I can ever watch professional cycling again. What a frikkin joke.

Just not a massive fan of Horner really! Maybe he's doped, maybe he isn't but I find it very difficult to like him.

What a great fight that was! Too bad for Nibali that his planned tactics didn't work out, but that was exciting.

Unfortunately Horner has a better acceleration then Nibali so he will be able to get a few seconds at the end.

Haha, this just points out how ridiculous it all is. Horner and 'acceleration' in the same sentence.
  • Great stage.
Did Nibali go way too early there?

    He only needed 3 seconds...

His team-mates messed up and left him too long to bridge across. They should have literally stopped and waited for him.

...yes, well....er, "unbelievable" (source: S Kelly, many times). Idly wondering how well Horner matches the demographic that buys most Treks in its home market...no doubt a simple, fortuitous, marketing coincidence.

I don't know enough about him to be honest, never met him and not seen him interviewed much so pretty difficult to form an accurate perception of him as a person. I presume he's tested as much as anyone so unless there's any proof you have to accept his performance at face value. Older guys can produce great performances.

Apparently the 3rd fastest climb of the Angliru at 43:17? https://twitter.com/ammattipyoraily no idea how true that is?

The thing is.. Had it only been his age.. It just isn't.

So disappointing for our sport, this. That's all.

Yes fair enough, perhaps depressing was the wrong word.

Maybe Fulglsang and Tiralongo could have timed things differently, but would it have made much difference? Guess we'll never know.

Great result for Elissonde. Another young French rider, so pleased for him.

Chris Horner asterisk wins the Vuelta
“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!
  • Best man won ... Regardless of the petty spite shown by the Bikeradar faithful ...

Fresh man beat a bunch of guys who had always been 2nd tier GT riders (until Nibs stepped up) in the past 5 years and had been racing all year ...

Horner allowed to ride for himself in a GT and showed just what the last 2 TdF winners have shown ... ordinary riders win races when the competition fails to step up ...

Good last 20 mins of TV ...

I suppose as a comparison Contador won it last year only a month after returning from a long ban, perhaps that's what it takes to win, fresh legs.

    The depressing low of Horner

His time was closer to 43.06

Here are the other record times:

Also means though that the other three riders had very high times especially compared to some of the names on that list. Moreno set a ferocious pace for a long time and there was a lot at stake making them ride very hard.

How relevent is it comparing the times in different years, aren't there too many variables?

@crankbrother... Fully agree mate. Quite amusing to think of the BR faithful spitting bile over their keyboards. No facts, no evidence, but hey let's all hate the guy anyway...
  • Roche lost a decent amount of time there to Joaquim. Only one change in the GC top ten which is surprising with Konig dropping two places.

  • please.....this win is even less believable than any of Lance's tour wins

I agree. It seemed odd that Tiralongo (who was ahead) actually reached Nibs first. Although to be fair I'm not sure how far Fuglsang was.

Great spirit by Nibali. Clearly fought until the end and gave it all. I won't comment on Horner as I find it all pretty unbelievable myself, but congratulations to him.

    Is The Clinic okay? :D

Edit: Just a had look; Brailsfod and Vaughters are already linked to the whole thing so everything is normal.

Nibali started the attacks very early; that'll have massively affected the average speeds

I've genuinely warmed to Nibs this year. Good racer.

Horner's performance is not quite unbelievable - or at least not completely unpredictable.

I picked him for PTP GC on the basis that he was the only rider without a GT in his legs this year (and indeed was eased back in after a long rest), on a horrible route, and he's always been a fine climber who has suffered little decline in the last 5 years, long after anyone else would have been in slippers. For genetic or more nefarious reasons, who knows?

Frankly I find Roche's improvement more surprising, especially on this parcours, than Horner's.

Still looks like a bag of spanners on a bike of course.
