Why did he go so early? He only needed 3 seconds.
Well based on the previous stages if he waits he's only going to lose more time to Horner

    Nibali and Tiralongo back together

Elissonde caught up to Tiralongo and both are on the descent. Euskaltel and Katusha leading the peloton up the slopes pretty fast and Horner is looking nervous and right at the head of things.
Elissonde is another of the upcoming young French riders – it would be good to see him also get a good result today.

Yep a good young rider but not doing as well as his other young French riders.

He's burying himself at the moment though!
  • Good move from Nibali and Tiralongo dropped off immediately but unfortunately Horner grinded back and took back the initial 8 secs or so Nibali got.

Horner has not sat down yet. No idea how he can ride with so much lactic acid in his legs

    Valverde back on
  • Nibali has Fugslang and Tiralongo here with Horner and JRod (who will attack with certainty) and Valverde who may well claw his way back.

Now Nibali, Fuglsang and Tiralongo all together along with Valverde, Horner and Rodriguez
  • 3 v 1 and the 1 is 42 years old.

I don't want to be that guy.......but I'm struggling with this.

    Tiralongo drops off
  • Nice Valverde - always manages to pull back the initial loss of time.

    Go go Elissonde!

If there is little gap between Horner and Nibs at the end of today, there will fireworks tomorrow surely?

Not much the two domestiques can do here...apart from block Horner when Nibali attacks

Astana to keep it together and make a team effort over the top to just get enough time on the last 500m? Maybe the attack from Nibs was less of an actual attempt at gapping Horner and more about pre-empting an attack on the steeper bits.

    ---

well scrap that, the attacks resume haha

Nibali attacks and he's all alone now
  • Unfortunately Horner has a better acceleration then Nibali so he will be able to get a few seconds at the end.

Not sure how many ppl inbetween and therefore the bonus seconds up for grabs.

    STORM COLOUDS!

    Nibs in front again.
