Slight weather diversion but last Friday they forecast rain all day Saturday in Essex. We nearly cancelled a BBQ but decided it might change…….
It never rained a drop. Dont worry about the weather it will be lovely, you heard it hear first!!0 -
Way to early to tell with the weather (especially if there is a storm system in the Atlantic). The long term forecast (using decent data rather than guesses) has varied from dry to drizzle over the last few days, Thursday into Friday will be somewhere to start predicting the weather for the day.0

No, they dont really what how when and where... I reckon it will not be hot and probably damp and with a south west breeze which will help us home. Should be good0

A question.
I can't find my registration form.
Am I f*cked?0 -

I'll second that. I rang them today as I had lost mine, they sent out a replacement by email.2010 Lynskey R230

thanks all - yeah just spoken to helpline, all fine.Mikey23 wrote:Lurking at the back of the magazine?
Well this was the problem - I think I just lobbed the letter in the recycling along with the envelope, assuming it was just more extraneous blurb.0 -
..I've had to call the helpline twice, first time because I hadn't received my start-time email, and second because by last week of July, still hadn't got the final magazine and registration card. I must say, I was impressed both times..... friendly, slick, efficient....should be the norm, of course, and not worthy of comment - if only!
...weather looking less bad as we speak, but I bet the organisers are a wee bit anxious...!0 -
I've sussed a plan to get to the start, but now I'm stuck on getting home. I live in SW London, but to get home from Green Park I need to cross the route.
Does anyone know if there will be crossing points so I can get to either Waterloo or Hungerford Bridge? I can then cycle home from there.0 -

Last year there were crossing points - in fact the FI say that you must be prepared to stop at crossing points.0 -
I'm in a similar situation. I will be parking my car at the O2 arena and making my way up to the start in the morning. Getting back to the O2 from The Mall is giving me a headache due to having to fight my way across town after my ride has ended.2010 Lynskey R230

what time are you planning on finishing? pros go off at 1:00pm so Piccadilly should be more or less open at 2:00pm, at the very least be very easy to cross. Anyway may is deceptive so from NE corner of Green Park to past St James St (where Piccadilly will be reopen) is 100 metres. There will be no traffic so just pootle down to Waterloo where again crossing will be easy.
I think riding across Town would be easy (Shaftesbury Ave, Holborn will take you into the City) as will be traffic free. I have no idea how you would get across to the O2 as you can't cycle through Blackwall Tunnel.0 -
my car park is the 02 as well. Was thinking about going over Waterloo Bridge and then onto the A200 all the way. I need to double check if any of that route is shut though0
-
Where would be a good place to arrange picking up afterwards in east London? I'm going back to Essex and I know the organisers say you have to go east of Tower Bridge, but my knowledge of that part of London is basically non-existent. Has anyone got any recommendations that aren't too difficult to find for cyclist or driver?
I was thinking Tower Hill station (surely that's close enough?!) as it's easy to find (and I know where it is) but any other suggestions are welcome from those who know the area.0 -

no road closures in S.E London - probably as easy as any route0 -

Tower Hill would be a nightmare for parking. I would go the extra half mile to Royal London Hospital on Whitechapel/A11. I am assuming driver will come down A12 so will be easy to find. Don't know your timings but there will be rolling road closures for Pro Race http://www.prudentialridelondon.co.uk/A ... London.pdf0 -

I'm heading off at 7:22 so should be back in around 6 hours, depending on conditions.2010 Lynskey R230

The driver will be coming in on the A13, but the Royal London is quite near to that so that should work. Thanks0 -
Looking at the changes to weather today, I might bulk buy ass savers and get my other half to sell them for silly money at the start line0

Its the will it wont it nature which is rather annoying - im going to have to pack so much extra kit so i can choose what to wear on the morning of the ride and that means im going to need to get up even earlier so i can factor in changing my mind a few times!0

This is the annoying thing as now I need to make sure everything will fit in my saddle bag and if it won't what do I put in and leave out now.
Was hoping to get some good pics of me this year out in the sun on the bike but looks like that may not happen.
This sounds ominous
Met Office Warnings Issued For:
Surrey
Yellow alert of rain
From: 0015 on Sun 10 AugustTo: 2345 on Sun 10 August
Updated 51 minutes ago
There is the risk of severe weather during Sunday as a depression tracks over, or close to, the UK. At this stage there is more than average uncertainty in the forecast, but the public should be aware of the risk of heavy rain, strong winds and large waves, sufficient to disrupt transport and make outdoor activities dangerous.
This is a particularly volatile situation, and this warning is likely to be changed as the event approaches.0 -

This is a particularly volatile situation, and this warning is likely to be changed as the event approaches.
The remains of hurricane Bertha, over the western side of the Atlantic on Thursday morning, will come steadily towards the UK. The transition from a tropical to an extra-tropical feature is a particularly hard one to forecast with confidence, and computer models continue to differ in the location and intensity of the resulting depression, which is expected to pass over, or close to, the UK from early on Sunday.
There is the potential for widespread rainfall totals of more than 50 mm and coastal gusts of over 60 mph, along with large waves. However, the system may pass harmlessly to the south of the country. or spread heavy rain even further north, and the public are advised to keep up to date with warnings."
Wind and rain will be bad enough, but large waves.....????!!!0 -
I dont like the sound of 'make outdoor activities dangerous' in terms of the risk of the event being cancelled!0
-
going to ask them tonight at Excel what communication plans they have for if this gets cancelled. Lets hope we are exaggerating0
-
Barriers were up in Richmond Park this morning, maybe it's sooner than I thought. There's still plenty of time for training isn't there?
Fingers crossed for the weather. I think I'm going to buy a waterproof that packs up small.0 -
