Oh stop it. Give us a sample extract (so to speak)

POSTER 1: What was he [Ben Foster] taking to get that cut?

POSTER 2: He probably hired a personal trainer like most actors do. I'd say he also did some riding so he wouldn't look like a total muppet when he had to be filmed on the bike.

POSTER 3: Most actors, especially in comic book films are on a heavy steroid cycle and/or growth hormone, it takes more than just a personal trainer to achieve the kind of body transformations that are common in Hollywood these days.

Then a fourth posters starts banging on about Stallone and Schwarzenegger.

(Of course anyone who has seen Ben Foster in a film will know he's pretty fit and skinny anyway - probably part of the reason he got the job. It's not like they cast Jack Black)

ProCycling's timeline is flooded with people pointing out all the small mistakes in that one photo, seriously some people must be amazingly skilled/have no life whatsoever (*delete as appropriate)

Filming's just begun on the Stephen Frears movie based on Seven Deadly Sins. They've just released the first image, with Ben Foster

Gave me the creeps, so it did
Some of the Cycling News Forum have started to accuse Ben Foster of doping (seriously!)

Is 'The Armstrong Lie' being shown in London? If so, where?

    TIA.

    Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
  • ^its not gone on general release here yet. It had a very limited showing during the London Film Festival a couple of weeks ago, but that's all so far
  • Talking of films, its a little amusing that Vaughters and Garmin are helping out on the set of the Stephen Frears movie - Millar as consultant, team buses on loan to be dressed up as USPS buses, and now Thomas Dekker's getting involved

Question, as I'm puzzled about this thread.

Do you have to be a Fanboi of armstrong to be convinced by a film as to his low life activities. :?:

Reason I ask is that to most people his antics since 1999 have been obvious and embarrassing to watch so a Film interpretation is of no value.

If the target audience of this film was restricted to the community of fans who didnt buy the Lance story, thats one thing. But its not. No more than The Smartest Guys in the Room was targeted at a audience purely comprising financial market-savvy movie-goers. And you dont have to know the story to find something of potential interest in Dibney's film-making.

Extending your logic, no historical films, no films set in the future.

You have to pay £10 to go sit in a cinema and stare up at a mirror for 2 hours.

Absolutely despicable! Just realised that a torrent is now up which isn't even fake. If you have no idea how to find/download this digraceful content you can send me a PM so you'll be able to report this awful behavior to the appropriate authorities...

In sort of answer to your question deejay. I'm going with 2 girls who have zero interest in cycling as a sport and probably still think Lance is a cancer hero with a bit of extra noise these past few months...

having said that if Thom Thom could PM me that despicable theivery just so i can shake my fist at it, i might just go have a beer instead..?

Where did you eat on Monday btw?

    Ah just read it.

I should have recommended the passion fruit margarita there. Would have softened the blow.
  • Just watched it and not being a long time expert on cycling history, it really helped me put a lot of the things that have happened over the past 15-20 years into perspective. Lance comes out of it as a slightly sociopathic bully, but there are so many at fault, its difficult to apportion blame. Definitely worth watching.

Just watched it as well and thought was very weak for the general cycling fan. It was basically just an extended version of the National Geographic broadcast. Very little from Lance himself.

I do remember thinking, when Ferrari sat in his couch with a timer at his own place, what a damn shame he chose to do things illegaly. Many bad things can be said about him but he sure does have passion about the sport.

Also, it's incredibly easy to see Lance is lying when talking about his Ventoux performance in 2009 being clean.
  • Ferrari is a genius, a naughty naughty genius, he revolutionized modern cycling. I would like to see a film about him.

Saw it yesterday - to answer deejay's question (which might have been in another thread), My sister was really interested in it by the end and pumped me for questions afterwards about it. I do think it's a story that does interest the casual sports fan

    Personally..

Have to say I don't think Hincapie comes off that badly, his blaze attitude to it is a little surprising and to be honest I'm not sure he really feels like it was ever wrong. Given it's the day though I suspect that he ll be rememebred more like Pantani than Armstrong in 10 years though

When Frankie and Betsy did ther thing, did Frankie fully admit to his doping and lay it all out on the table then? have to say some of their detractors do have a bit of a point there...

One of the bits that shocked me was when Arsmtrong and Bruneyl are talking about ASO flirting with not letting them back in after the comeback and the PR is saying that they re looking for a clean start etc etc and Bruneyl keeps shouting that Lance has never cheated, never tested positive etc etc. I think it's a good insight into how these guys viewed doping by then

The in race footage is great. The bit of the domestique chasing back up the climb loaded with stuff is great. As is Lance and Bruneyl sneaking looks out of the window at Bertie's Press conference and the footage of Bruneyl in the car as Bertie attacks...

Gibney does a very good job of lingering on Armstrong's face whe he's angry and you really do get intimidated by him, even through the screen. You can see how easy it was for him to threaten people and get his way...

Worth seeing, but there is little about the story that I didn t know (except that Vrijman report thing - that was interesting and a new angle on the 100, 000 donation thing)

Saw it yesterday too and agree with what you wrote above DDR; the bike-cam was great, not enough of it!, jaw-dropping watching him dodge past the fans at the side of the road going very fast.

I wanted more of the Contador/Armstrong story, no mention of no cars being available to Contador for his TT. Bruyneel shouting 'Poutain! Poutain!' when Contador ignores his orders to slow up for Armstrong and takes off with FrAndy. Also liked Contador give 'the look' before dropping him, Gibney narating 'I wonder if that was a 'Fuck You' to Armstrong?' I thought of the clips i'd seen of Armstrong giving that 'look' to others hehehe.

the man helped to grossly mutate an entire generation of bike racing

I'm not sure that 'naughty' is the adjective I'd use

Yeah but if you met him in the cafe you'd think he was a slightly nerdy (nerdier) accountant not an evil genius...

I'd quite like to see the Simeoni Film he jokes about though...
