well apparently i have been xenophobic, and have received a pre-ban warning for it.
i would happily take my medicine if id genuinely done the crime, but i havent, and to be labelled such a term by a mod, despite my ukip sympathies, is offensive in itself.0 -
i couldn't see anything wrong in what you said, mind you I didn't understand a lot of it, its all Greek to me...........I'll see myself out.I don't mean to brag, I don't mean to boast, but I'm intercontinental when I eat French toast...0

pm the mod in question and ask which part was deemed offensive or ask a question in 'Discuss the website with the team' sectionPinno, מלך אידיוט וחרא מכונאי0

i can only assume it was the 'defender' in that thread, as the mod said to me, any more xenophobic remarks and i will ALSO be getting a ban so i guess the other main contributor to that thread was banned for some unknown reason...
i just thought id highlight the, imo, poor standards here, as others have recently too. if something is reported , can mods not use their judgement to determine if that thing is offensive, or can they use some common sense and use there own opinion to reject the complaint if its invalid.0 -
He seemed to take offence at the bog roll in the bin remark. Never been to Greece but I am led to believe that this is/was the practice due to the Greek plumbing being too small a gauge to take the paper without becoming blocked. Surely you can't take offence at facts?0

Thats what i read into it, the plumbing is rubbish and sticking shitty bog roll in a bin and letting it fester for a few days in the height of summer seems pretty nasty to me. TBH the greek water authorities (apparently there are hundreds of them) make Thames Water look incredibly efficient.Life isnt like a box of chocolates, its like a bag of pic n mix.0 -

thats what its come to, banned for stating a facts...0 -
There was quite an interesting article on how different cultures interpret things they have read in forums. I am sure it was part of the report after this:Life isnt like a box of chocolates, its like a bag of pic n mix.0

Just playing devils advocate here.......
But you cant hide behind "facts" if you post something offensive, its still offensive whether or not its factual. Then there is the question over whether you have the right to offend or not.
The thread was in Cake Stop, not Bottom Bracket. Bottom Bracket says you may be offended (has the appropriate warning) but Cake Stop doesn't which gives the mods the right to remove based on whether it was offensive or not, I guess.
My own view is that I may disagree 100% with what you say, but I will defend your right to say it 100%. Too many people claim offense in order to not have their views questioned etc.0 -

Firstly, note that I agree with you, not the complainer.
Bear in mind that different people have different levels of tolerance to mickey taking/joking around/having a factual debate.
So what could be considered offensive/xenophobic by Mr Random (not you or me)?the playing mantis wrote:yeah but u do put shi tty tissues in the bin still....!
This could be considered as offensive and xenophobic by some, even though its factual. Offensive because you are insinuating that Greece is backwards, or undeveloped, xenophobic for pretty much the same reason.
But thats about it as far as I could see.
As I said, I agree with you, but that doesn't mean that others won't be offended or claim that your post was xenophobic to some degree. It doesn't matter if you or I think it's offensive or not. If one person thinks it is, or reports it as such then most mods would block or close a thread, certainly if it was outside of the recognised, or designated area of the forum that was intended for such discussions and ideas.
That doesnt mean I agree with it of course, just posing the other view.
Personally I think that the defender was insulted that people were taking pot shots at his beloved country and so reported just to get the thread closed down in order to stop it.0 -
look, im bigotted, sexist, racist, communist, facist, president of the gay and lesbian alliance but im not a porn star, eh i mean xenphobic0

also it hypocritcal i think, especially when i have just come across the suspect on another thread that i read about the origin of shimano groupset names, racially stereotyping the japanese...0

So stop crying like a baby and report it if you thought it was offensive and/or racist or xenophobic.0 -

Obviously reducing an entire nation to a stereotype deserves a ban, you daft, old, english, tosser
this is a personal insult aimed at TPM and clearly not intended to suggest that everyone in england is a tosser, daft, old, or in fact english, but it is based on some basic facts that you have alluded to in other threads.
I did have to assume that you are in fact english thoughmy isetta is a 300cc bike0 -
I once had to use the toilet in a bus station in a small town in Mexico. The bin was full of shitty used toilet paper as well. Am Inow Xenophobic ( why fear of xylophones relates to this, I do wonder), or just dislike Mexican bus station toilets ?I don't mean to brag, I don't mean to boast, but I'm intercontinental when I eat French toast...0

Getting back on topic here... my 2p worth.
I think your comment about bog paper in bins could sound offensive - especially to someone ready to take offence. This is always a problem with written messages (email/forum etc.) when it's hard to give irony/context which we get in a face-to-face conversation.
I don't agree with your subsequent attitude/posts (but hey, we're all different) - but if the potential ban is for the messages I've seen on the thread to date (1825 BST), then that's pretty excessive and disproportionate, IMHO.0 -
I can't see anything which suggests "an unreasonable fear or hatred of foreigners or strangers or of that which is foreign or strange."
Some may have found the comment offensive (I didn't, it's a fact that I have experienced), but it was in no way xenophobic. Has the mod in question explained why it was xenophobic ? If the mod does have an answer, then it just reinforces my point made in the bullying thread.Science adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.

There you go, thats how it COULD be classed as xenophobic.0
