There is no doubting the effort being put in by Vos and others in this race. Go to 02:17 in this video for an indication of how much they are suffering.

They are all draped over the barriers at the finish afterwards too.

That was a very classy save by Vos, she really is something else.

I know this is going to get me in trouble, but women's racing really does look very slow doesn't it.

you need to re-calibrate as a viewer but once you are there it can scan pretty much as decent racing. The main problem is the lack of depth of talent in the field but given the p1ss poor money involved its easy to see why. the womens worlds and olympic RR tend to be quite entertaining in my view

The UCI need to get involved in a more constructive way perhaps..maybe if you want a WT license you have to field a women's team as well with min wage standards or somefink??? dunno

Right on all points. And I say this hyopcritically as I don't pay as much attention the women's scene as the men's. But maybe I would if the UCI did what you suggest.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

I totally agree with most of what you've said (though I disagree with the part about forcing sponsors to have a women's team). I appreciate that my post appeared to be denigrating women's cycling, but it wasn't really meant to, just making an observation.

I've watched a fair bit of women's racing (mainly Worlds and Olympics, rarely have time to scour youtube for anything else) and i've often enjoyed it, but still, to my eyes it just looks slow, like watching a cat 3/4 race when you are used to watching the World Tour.

I'm watching stage 3 now.( a day late)
    Totally bemused by the tactics.
Only OGE's Tiffany Cromwell able to bridge to Vos.
When she got there, she then did 80% of the work,
while Vos had an armchair ride.

Confused chase by the bunch, too.

Edit: I see Cromwell crashed on a descent, too.
    Not surprised.
Vos is technically miles ahead of the rest, going downhill.
The rest corner like a fifty pence piece.

I saw some of the race a few years ago with Vos taking on Pooley, who climbs like an angel but descends like my gran, it was actually quite embarrassing to watch.

I read that Vos pulled her foot out of the cleat in a sprint.

The dark line across behind Vos & Bronzini is a repaired trench, and the bit Vos went through is quite badly sunken.
The foot out was a consequence.
It shows better on this video (at about 3m15s

Emma has an extremely high cadence, even on the flat and downhill, this seems to make her handlebars go left-right-left-right as she rides along. Maybe she should push a bigger gear? Still she's done well in TT. Vos I think has a cyclocross background.

I wonder if Cromwell locked her front wheel, she figured that if she followed the same line as Vos she could descend with her. She claimed she was much stronger than Vos on the climbs.

I have stage 4 recorded to watch later.
Stage 2. Definitely a bit of road fill that jumped Vos's back wheel.

Cromwell, actually caught up to Vos on an earlier descent.
Working hard out of each corner, breaking late, but cornering virtually upright.
In the end, struggling to keep up, her luck ran out.
Lost her front wheel and went on tarmac inspection.

Best way I can describe the bunch is that they looked
as if they were descending in treacherous, wet conditions, while
    it was actually bone dry.

Hilly one today, 2000m of climbing.

Cromwell is a product of the Australian Institute of Sport, a scan of her Facebook page palmares (extensive, rather self-regarding biog!) reveals that at 24 she's got nothing on Vos. Sort of Australia's version of Lizzie Armitstead.

Outrageously skilful save by Vos. a lot of riders would be shedding skin after that.

She has improved it a lot recently!! In last years Giro she was attacking on the downhills..

"Allunga Mara Abbot! All alone Mara Abbot in the front!"

Stevens is 2nd on GC I think... any time she can get on Vos is crucial, even if Abbot takes the stage win.

Vos is rapidly in crisis, dropped back to 5th place, 1 min 15 seconds back at the moment.

    10kms to go.

Abbot leads, then Stevens at 20 seconds.

Guderzo, Luperini and Cauz at 45 seconds

1 min 20 from Abbot to Vos.
